Mirage
Courtly Love Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm outta time, I cannot feel
You were right to reveal
And if you'd known, would you let me go
To get free, to get real?

We live it down, most of the time
Play it right in our minds
But the day will come, when we will want
To get free

You are
Not mine, not mine
Not mine, never were in this life

I draw the line
I'll have you know
And this night, leaves us alone
To think aloud, to work it out
To get free!

You are

Not mine, not mine
Not mine, never were in this life

Overall Meaning

In Courtly Love's song "Mirage," the singer seems to be experiencing a sense of disillusionment with his romantic relationship. The lyrics suggest that the singer is unable to feel anymore and is questioning whether his partner would still let him go if she knew how he felt. He is trying to break free and find something real, even though he admits that most of the time we just play it safe in our minds.

The chorus repeats the phrase "Not mine, not mine, never were in this life," which emphasizes that the singer has come to terms with the fact that the relationship was never meant to be. The lyrics seem to exemplify a struggle between the expectations we have for ourselves and how we perceive others, and the reality of the situation. The singer is drawing a line and deciding to take action for what he believes is best for his happiness.

Overall, the song's lyrics aptly describe a disenchanted lover who is trying to navigate the complexities of relationships, which often fall short of our lofty expectations.

Nostalgic.. I miss that bluesy sound from the glorious age of psychedelic rock, but this band certainly have that magic about them to make it sound so beautiful
