Beginning as the house band for the Coyaba River Garden and Museum in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and featuring ska, rocksteady and reggae veterans such as Justin Hinds, Ernest Ranglin, Glen DaCosta, David Madden, Vin Gordon and Dean Fraser, supported by artists like Maxwell and Fitzroy Hinds, Judy Gordon, Carrel Hewitt, David McIntosh, Leon Ellis, Dennis Smith, Noel Seale and Akete, the Coyabalites soon debuted on Shanachie Records with their first album, 1997's "Unhinged".
