Nothing to Believe In
Cracker Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where ya going to?
If you want me, let me take you
Where ya going to?
If you want me, let me take you

'Cause in my life
I got nothing to believe in
Except for you
I got nothing to believe in

Whatcha looking for?
If you want it, I will find it
Yeah, whatcha looking for?
If you want me, let me find it

'Cause in my life
I got nothing to believe in
Except for you
I got nothing to believe in

And I feel fine (I feel fine)
I feel fine (I feel fine)
Yeah, I feel fine (I feel fine)
I feel fine (I feel fine)

'Cause in my life
I got nothing to believe in
Except for you
I got nothing to believe in
Except for you
I got nothing to believe in

Well, I feel fine (I feel fine)...

Overall Meaning

The opening line, "Where ya going to? If you want me, let me take you" sets the scene for a song about reliance and trust. The singer is offering to lead the subject of the song somewhere, but only if they want him to. This is followed by the chorus - "in my life I've got nothing to believe in, except for you" which is repeated throughout the song. It sounds like the singer is stating that their life is empty except for the subject of the song. They are putting all of their trust and faith into this one person.

The second verse, "Whatcha looking for? If you want it, I will find it, Yeah, whatcha looking for? If you want me, let me find it" reinforces this idea of trust and reliance on the subject of the song. The singer is offering to help the subject find what they're looking for, but only if the subject wants him to. The fact that the singer says "If you want me, let me find it" again shows that he is putting himself at the subject's disposal.

The repetition of "I feel fine" at the end of the song is interesting. It reinforces the idea that the singer is happy with their life being centred around the subject of the song. Despite the lack of anything else going on in their life, the singer is content with this level of trust and reliance on the person they hold in such high esteem. Overall, the song is about trust, love, and how one person can provide meaning to another's life.
