David has been nominated for fourteen Brit Awards: five times for Best British Male, and twice receiving a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
David was born in Southampton, Hampshire, the son of Tina (nΓ©e Loftus), a retail assistant at Superdrug, and George David, a carpenter, and grew up in the Holyrood estate. David's father is Afro-Grenadian and David's mother is Anglo-Jewish and related to the founders of the Accurist watch-making company; David's maternal grandfather was an Orthodox Jew and his maternal grandmother a convert to Judaism. David's parents separated when he was eight and he was brought up by his mother. He attended Bellemoor School and Southampton City College.
David was bullied by other students at school. He wrote and released the song "Johnny" in 2005 about his sad memories of being bullied.
David's father played bass in a reggae band called Ebony Rockers. As a teen, David began accompanying his father to local dance clubs, where DJs let him take the microphone.
On 9 September 2020, David signed a global publishing deal with New York-based Round Hill Music. The agreement includes all of David's music catalogue to date, and also includes a futures agreement that will see all of his new music administered by the company.

6 of 1 thing (uh)
Half a dozen of another
6 of 1 thing (oh)
Half a dozen of another
Tell me one thing (oh)
Then you go and do another (uh, c'mon)
What you doin' to me
[Chorus: 2]
6 of 1 thing (uh)
Half a dozen of another
6 of 1 thing (ha)
Half a dozen of another
Tell me one thing
Then you go and do another
Baby tell me why (c'mon, check)
[Verse 1:]
Why do you always front (lately)
Over nothin' baby
Actin' nonchalant (tell me)
Why you been trippin' out
Where's the love gone (baby)
All I know there's no more
Kissin' huggin', makin' lovin'
Romantic weekends in London
Used to always say (girlfriend)
I'm the only one that makes you happy
Tell me girl what's changed (since then)
Why we don't communicate no more
Leavin' me wide (open)
And it's so clear to see that
This ain't workin', that's for certain
Baby please just tell me somethin'
Why you actin' crazy, yeah
One minute crazy next thing everything cris
That's why I don't understand why you actin' like this
Baby why you actin' crazy
You're confusin' me, when you tell me baby
[Chorus: 1]
[Chorus: 2]
[Verse 2:]
Why you always cryin' (lately)
Over nothin' baby
When all I'm doin' is tryin' (trust me)
Just wanna work this out
So hard to be strong (baby)
When it seems you're always
Boyfriend snubbin', girlfriends clubbin'
Baby please just tell me somethin'
Why you actin' crazy, yeah
One minute crazy next thing everything crisp
That's why I don't understand why you actin' like this
Baby why you actin' crazy
You're confusin' me, when you tell me baby
[Chorus: 1]
[Chorus: 2]
[Bridge:]
This one dedicated to my peeps in the same [censored] as this
This one, I don't know, I ain't been here before
But I know I don't want to let you go
She's like this, one minute wanting to kiss
Next minute we both be fighting like this
It was never like that
You were just my girl and your boy had your back
But you're one in a million, just came off the rails though
Flipped off the track, tryin' to put you back on though
Just like a yo-yo, how relationships go
We kickin' out the door, but you're waivin' the four four
So unpredictable hard to follow
Specially when I don't know what the [censored] is wrong
That why girl I'm so confused when your sittin' there sayin' baby baby
[Chorus: 1]
[Chorus: 2]
[Chorus: 1]
[Chorus: 2]
[Outro:]
I wanna know know know know know
Yeah
Na na na na know
Oh baby
What you doin' to me
La na na na know
La na na na know know
La na na na know
La na na na know know
La na na na know oh
The lyrics to Craig David's "6 of 1 Thing" reflect the confusion of a relationship in which one partner is constantly changing their behavior and emotions. The chorus repeats the phrase "6 of 1 thing, half a dozen of another," which basically means that two choices are really the same, and it seems like it's that way with the singer's partner - they say one thing but then do another, leaving the singer feeling bewildered and frustrated. In Verse 1, the singer asks their partner to explain why they're acting so distant and uninterested, and notes that things used to be better with more affection and intimacy. But the partner won't acknowledge the problem and seems to be making things worse. In Verse 2, the singer expresses their hurt and confusion at being accused of causing problems when they're really trying to make things right. The bridge gives a sense of being lost and not knowing what to do to get the relationship back on track.
The song's title and chorus are a variation on the common phrase "six of one, half a dozen of the other," which suggests that two options are equally good or bad.
The song was released in 2007 as the lead single from Craig David's fourth album "Trust Me".
The music video for the song was directed by Jake Nava, who has also directed videos for BeyoncΓ©, Adele, and Kanye West.
In 2008, the song was nominated for Best British Single at the Brit Awards.
"6 of 1 Thing" reached the top 20 in several countries, including the UK, Ireland, and Italy.
The song was co-written by Craig David and Mark Hill, who was one half of the UK garage duo Artful Dodger.
The song samples a guitar riff from the Chic song "My Forbidden Lover".
Craig David has said that the song's lyrics are based on personal experience and the confusion of being in a relationship that's falling apart.
The song was remixed by the German DJ and producer Mousse T. for a single release in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

My favorite thing about this MV is how they had the band/background βsingersβ play themselves in both modern and older times. The dancers, though, are all the same girl. Four different dance routines to the same song. She is amazing. IMHO, Craig David was at his physical peak here, in both looks and vocals. Man is just a beautiful artist.
