Crashdog were known for their very direct lyrics, which they used to make social commentaries and discuss political issues of their day. Their albums included both strongly Christian songs and overtly political songs, often with a liberal bent. They were one of the first Christian bands to do this; later Christian old-school punk and hardcore bands followed suit.
In 1998 they released 8 Years to Nowhere, a selection of songs from previous recordings (originally called 8 Years from Nowhere to Nowhere). After its release, they decided to go on a one-year hiatus because their drummer, Greg Jacques, was starting a new record label, 2 Jake Records.
During their hiatus, they started another band, Ballydowse, which featured a mix of Celtic music and punk rock along with other styles. As of 2006, they still consider themselves to be on an "indefinite hiatus", but it is unlikely that they will re-form as a band.

Crashdog Lyrics

Somewhere in the ancient mystic trinity
You get three, it's a magic number
The past, the present, and the future
Faith, hope, and charity
The mind, the heart, and body
Give you three, it's a mgaic number
It takes three legs to make
Every triangle has three corners
Every triangle has three sides
No more, no less
You don't have to guess
When it's three you can see
It's a magic number
A man and a woman
Had a baby, yes they did
They had three in the family
It's a magic number
3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24,27,30
3 x 10 = 30
3 x 9 = 27
3 x 8 = 24
3 x 7 = 21
3 x 6 = 18
3 x 5 = 15
3 x 4 = 12
3 x 3 = 9
3 x 2 = 6
3 x 1 = 3
It was three times the lie was told
And the three times the rooster crowed
It took three nails to kill the King
And in three days He rose again!
The song "Three" by Crashdog is an ode to the mystical power of the number three. The first verse sets the tone by declaring that three is a magic number, referencing the idea of a trinity of ancient mysticism. The verse then goes on to list various triads that illustrate the power of three: past, present, and future; faith, hope, and charity; mind, heart, and body. In each case, three is presented as a complete and powerful entity, greater than the sum of its parts.
The second verse expands on the idea of the power of three, using examples such as the tricycle with its three legs and the triangle with its three sides and corners. Again, the emphasis is on the completeness and perfection of threesomes. The verse also references the idea of counting in threes, listing the multiplication table for three from one to ten. This serves to reinforce the idea of the power and ubiquity of the number three.
The final verse brings the theme of the song full circle by referencing three important events in Christian theology: the three times Peter denied knowing Jesus, the three times the rooster crowed signaling Peter's betrayal, the three nails used to crucify Jesus, and his resurrection on the third day. These events further illustrate the significance and power of the number three.
