These members played together since 1959, first as The Blue Velvets, then as The Golliwogs. Their musical style encompassed the roots rock, swamp rock, and blues rock genres. They played in a Southern rock style, despite their San Francisco Bay Area origin, with lyrics about bayous, catfish, the Mississippi River, and other popular elements of Southern United States iconography, as well as political and socially conscious lyrics about topics including the Vietnam War. The band performed at the 1969 Woodstock Festival in Upstate New York.
The group disbanded acrimoniously in late 1972 after four years of chart-topping success. Tom Fogerty had officially left the previous year, and his brother John was at odds with the remaining members over matters of business and artistic control, all of which resulted in subsequent lawsuits among the former bandmates. Fogerty's ongoing disagreements with Fantasy Records owner Saul Zaentz created further protracted court battles, and John Fogerty refused to perform with the two other surviving members at CCR's 1993 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Creedence Clearwater Revival's music is still a staple of US radio airplay; the band has sold 26 million albums in the United States alone. Rolling Stone ranked them 82nd on its Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time list.
John Fogerty, Doug Clifford, and Stu Cook met at Portola Junior High School in El Cerrito, California. Calling themselves the Blue Velvets, the trio began playing instrumentals and "juke box standards", as well as backing Fogerty's older brother Tom at live gigs and in the recording studio. Tom soon joined the band, and in 1964 they signed with Fantasy Records, an independent jazz label in San Francisco that had released Cast Your Fate To The Wind, a national hit for jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi. The record's success was the subject of a National Educational Television special, which prompted budding songwriter John Fogerty to contact the label. For the band's first release, Fantasy co-owner Max Weiss renamed the group the Golliwogs (after the children's literary character, Golliwogg).
Bandmembers' roles and the instruments they played changed during this period. Stu Cook switched from piano to bass guitar and Tom Fogerty from lead vocals to rhythm guitar; John became the band's lead vocalist and primary songwriter. In Tom Fogerty's words: "I could sing, but John had a sound!".

I was feelin' strung out, hung out on the line
Saw myself a goin', down to war in June
All I want, all I want is to write myself a tune
Wrote a song for everyone
Wrote a song for truth
Wrote a song For everyone
Got myself arrested, wound me up in jail
Richmond 'bout to blow up, communication failed
If you see the answer, now's the time to say
All I want, all I want is to get you down and pray
Wrote a song for everyone
Wrote a song for truth
Wrote a song For everyone
When I couldn't even talk to you
Wrote a song for everyone
Wrote a song for truth
Wrote a song For everyone
When I couldn't even talk to you
Saw the people standin' thousand years in chains
Somebody said it's different now, look, it's just the same
Pharoah's spin the message, 'round and 'round the truth
They could have saved a million people, how can I tell you?
Wrote a song for everyone
Wrote a song for truth
Wrote a song For everyone
And I couldn't even talk to you
Wrote a song for everyone
Wrote a song for truth
Wrote a song For everyone
When I couldn't even talk to you
Wrote a song for everyone
Wrote a song for truth
Wrote a song For everyone
When I couldn't even talk to you
The lyrics to "Wrote A Song For Everyone" are about the struggle to communicate and share one's ideas and experiences with others. The first verse talks about feeling lost and disconnected from society, waiting in the county welfare line and feeling hung out to dry. The idea of going to war in June suggests a deeply personal struggle, possibly a fear of being drafted into military service during a time of war. Despite these troubles, the singer expresses a desire to create something meaningful, a tune that can express his own truth.
The second verse talks about being imprisoned and cut off from the world. The city of Richmond is about to explode, but communication has failed, leaving the singer and others in a state of uncertainty and fear. Once again, he expresses a desire to connect with something greater, to pray for guidance and understanding.
The final verse touches on the theme of oppression and the struggle for freedom. The image of people standing in chains for thousands of years suggests the long history of human suffering and the difficulty of breaking free from societal constraints. The singer laments the fact that those in power, represented here by Pharaoh, distort the truth and manipulate the masses for their own gain. Despite all these barriers, he still holds onto the idea of writing a song for everyone, a song for truth, as a way of expressing his own voice and connecting with others who share his struggle.
Overall, the song speaks to the human longing for expression and connection, even in the face of great adversity.

I stated listening to them as a kid when they were new in beginning of the 70s , their music was played everywhere. I remember being at a carnival and riding the skydiver with graveyard train blasting . It was a cool time.
