Holy War
Creeper Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It sits above a cloud that shines like the edge of a blade of a knife
Do you think they′ll find us?
Darling, we could run forever
But forever would not be long enough
The lyrics of Creeper's song Holy War are highly emotional and carry intense meaning. The opening line 'Roe, tell me what heaven is like,' suggests that the singer is seeking refuge in the idea of an afterlife that is devoid of the pain and suffering of the present world. The next line speaks of a cloud that shines like the edge of a knife, which could be interpreted as either the beauty or danger of the afterlife. The third line, 'Do you think they'll find us?' could be interpreted as the singer questioning whether they can ever escape their current troubled state.
The next line, 'Darling, we could run forever,' suggests that the singer is ready to flee from their current troubles to find a safe haven. But the last line, 'But forever would not be long enough,' is highly poignant and suggests that escaping from the present troubles may not be enough to find true happiness. Overall, the song seems to explore the relationship between life and death, the yearning for escape from pain, and the uncertainty of the afterlife.
