Misery
Creeper Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pretty, but he don't tell you about it
Winter scarves and skirts of velvet
Still drink just like we did in school
I passed your old house down by the cemetery
Club nights and university
When your friends sing 'Born to Run', baby, resist, 'cause we were 'Born to Drift'

If you could see the wreck I am these days
you'd have new reasons to stay away
Just hold my hand for a little while
Misery never goes out of style

I see you sometimes in dreams I have
In your bra in the room you used to rent
Do you ever wish you could wake someone else?
And so I wrote down a list of coroners, their names, their office phone numbers
To pronounce dead the thing we had
In tombs, ex-boyfriends bedrooms

If you could see the wreck I am these days
You'd have new reasons to stay away
Just hold my hand for a little while
Misery never goes out of style

If you could see the wreck I am these days
You'd have new reasons to stay away
Just hold my hand for a little while
Misery never goes out of style

I'm your chipped nail paint
I'm the fabric of your coat
You are all I fear
You are words I never wrote
I'm your chipped nail paint
I'm the fabric of your coat
You are all I fear
You are words I never wrote
You are years ago

If you could see the wreck I am these days
You'd have new reasons to stay away
Just hold my hand for a little while
Misery never goes out of style

If you could see the wreck I am these days
You'd have new reasons to stay away

Just hold my hand for a little while
Misery never goes out of style

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Creeper's song Misery are a lament from the perspective of someone who has experienced loss and is struggling to move on. The song begins with descriptions of someone who seems to be attractive on the surface, but hides their true feelings and struggles. The singer reminisces about their past experiences with this person, including nights at the club and university, and suggests that they were meant to live a life that defies expectations and societal norms.

The chorus is a plea for the person to stay with the singer, despite the difficulties they face in life. The singer acknowledges that they are a "wreck" but suggests that misery is a common experience that never truly fades away. The bridge of the song takes a darker turn, with the singer describing a list of coroners who could "pronounce dead the thing we had" and referencing tombs and ex-boyfriends' bedrooms. These lines suggest that the singer has experienced loss and is struggling to cope with the pain it has caused.

Overall, Creeper's Misery is a melancholic and introspective song that explores themes of loss, nostalgia, and the struggle to move on after experiencing pain. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the singer's emotional state and offer a glimpse into their memories and regrets.

@AshEdwards1995

Um, nah, it's not!

@wireframebox

Actually, I take it back, they've used three different one at least. 0:49 is Ocean Car Park, in Ocean Village. Inside shots are IKEA, you're right. The roof shots aren't IKEA, I think they're West Park by the station? 🤓
