The Fire
Cris Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The world's on fire...i don't care
It won't touch the world of a millionaire
Here in our gated community
We got blanket immunity
World's on fire..so they say
But where i live it's a beautiful day
All this talk is just fake news
It don't apply to me and you
Worlds on fire but it'll be alright
I heard the word on fox last night

World's on fire..thank god we're rich
So life goes on without a hitch
Let someone else breathe that smoke
It's not my problem so let them choke

World's on fire..we'll make money
It won't affect you and me honey
Stock exchange keeps going higher
Burning up just like that fire
We're the winners we can choose
Only losers get the blues

World's on fire, where's my gun
I might need to kill/shoot someone
If they come up to my door
Wanting food or something more
They say these there's people got no home
Lost everything and nowhere to go
It's a big old world they can find a / some place
As long as i don't see their face
How they suffer is not my problem
They should go back where they come from

World's on fire... I don't care
Won't touch the world of a millionaire
Here in our gated community
We got blanket immunity
World's on fire..let it turn to dust
I won't care until i must
We can move to outer space
While everyone else is stuck in this place

We're the winners we can choose
Only losers get the blues

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Cris's song "The Fire" convey a message of indifference and detachment towards the troubles and hardships faced by the world outside the gated community of the wealthy protagonist. The opening line, "The world's on fire... I don't care," sets the tone for the rest of the song, suggesting that the singer is insulated from the suffering and chaos experienced by others.

The lyrics highlight the stark contrast between the luxurious lifestyle of the wealthy and the struggles of the less fortunate. The line, "It won't touch the world of a millionaire," reflects the ignorance and lack of empathy towards the world outside their bubble. The gated community symbolizes seclusion and isolation, where the residents have "blanket immunity" from the problems of the outside world.

The song emphasizes the detachment and denial by dismissing the news reports of a burning world as "fake news" and claiming that it doesn't apply to the singer and their loved one. The lyrics further reinforce this detachment by suggesting that the wealthy can continue living their lives unaffected, as the stock exchange keeps rising and they continue accumulating wealth.

The callousness of the singer is further amplified in the latter part of the song when they express willingness to resort to violence if anyone approaches their door seeking help or support. They show no regard for the plight of those who have lost everything and instead suggest they go back where they came from.

In short, "The Fire" reflects the indifference and apathy of the wealthy towards the struggles and suffering of the rest of the world. It exposes the self-centeredness and lack of empathy that can accompany extreme wealth and privilege.
