Scabbia grew up listening to music with her family, which included two brothers and a sister. Though her sibling's musical preference differed from Scabbia's, her first influences were from bands such as Genesis, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and traditional Italian music. She began to take interest in metal music in her 20's as well as 1980's music, which also included dance music. Scabbia has said it is difficult categorize what influenced her as a musician and she feels that any type of music has had an influence on her.
Scabbia first began using her vocal abilities to back up Lacuna Coil's then lead singer Andrea Ferro. The last member to join the current line up, she was friends with the members previous to joining. When Lacuna Coil recognized her interest to sing in the group, they planned to record a demo with Scabbia that would be sent to record labels to get the group a record deal. Scabbia was initially asked to sing parts of the choruses, but the band liked the sound duality of the male/female vocals and asked her to be a permanent member.
Soon after recording the demo, they were signed on the international label Century Media. Originally signing with the Century Media branch located in Germany, Lacuna Coil joined up with the American branch of the label. Even before the first album's release in 1997, they began to tour.
Scabbia was once engaged to fellow Lacuna Coil bandmate, bassist Marco Coti Zelati, but their relationship has since come to an end, though they remain in the same band. She is currently dating James Root from American based groups Slipknot and Stone Sour.
Scabbia enjoys watching movies, cooking, photography, shopping, clothing and spending time with her friends and family. Her favourite sport is soccer and she supports A.C. Milan. When in the United States, she takes pleasure in watching the Food Network and is a fan of Emeril, who she claims is "the man". Scabbia also likes to watch Giada De Laurentiis' program Everyday Italian and Rachael Ray's program 30 Minute Meals. She took an interest in PETA and became against the use of fur in clothing after watching an animal cruelty video given to her by friends.
Scabbia's favourite bands are said to be Depeche Mode, Linkin Park, Korn and In Flames. Her favourite colours are red, white and black (all equally) and her favourite Lacuna Coil album is Unleashed Memories. She loves "black voices" and her favourite singers are Tori Amos and Skye of Morcheeba. She made a duet with the important Italian songwriter Franco Battiato in the song "I'm that" (2004) and she sang with him in a concert in Milan in 2005 (the concert can be watched on the DVD "Un soffio al cuore di natura elettrica"). Also she can be heard on the single "Can you hear me" of the Italian rock band Rezophonic. In 2006 Scabbia and all her bandmates appeared, with many Italian bands, in Rezophonic's videoclip "L'uomo di plastica".
She appeared on a remake of A Tout Le Monde on the upcoming Megadeth album United Abominations. The song is a duet with Dave Mustaine and will be the album's first single. She also featured on "The Theory of Everything", an album from Arjen Anthony Lucassen's Ayreon project, with which she is cast as the Mother. She is also the featured artist in the Apocalyptica song "S.O.S. (Anything But Love)" and another version of the Alter Bridge song "Watch Over You". Scabbia performed a duet with the Italian ex-singer of Linea 77 Emiliano Audisio on the track "Beautiful Lie" to be part of the soundtrack for the 2013 Italian film Passione sinistra.

Cristina Scabbia Lyrics

Just a possession
Is the sex or only violence
That feeds your obsession
You send me to a broken state
Where I can take the pain
Just long enough
That I just disappear
[Chorus]
So go on and fight me
Go on and scare me to death
Tell me I asked for it
Tell me I'll never forget
You could give me anything but love
Anything but love
Does it feel good tonight
Hurt me with nothing
Some sort of sick satisfaction
You Get from mind fucking
Oh stripped down to my naked core
The darkest corners of my mind are yours
That's where you live
That's where you breathe
[Chorus]
Without any faith
Without any light
Can dare me to live
Can dare me to lie
Inside I am dead
[Chorus]
Anything but love
Anything but love
The song "S.O.S." by Cristina Scabbia is a powerful and haunting depiction of a relationship that has become toxic and abusive, with the singer feeling trapped and powerless in the face of their partner's controlling behavior. The opening lines describe the singer as being "bound to your side and trapped in silence," indicating that they feel suffocated and unable to speak out about what's happening to them. The reference to "possession" implies that the partner sees the singer as merely an object to be controlled and manipulated, and the question of whether their sexual relationship is one of consensual love or violent obsession is left unanswered.
As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the partner takes pleasure in causing pain and suffering to the singer, who feels as though they are being ground down to nothing but a numb and powerless shell. The reference to being "mind fucked" suggests that the partner enjoys manipulating and gaslighting the singer, playing on their fears and insecurities in order to maintain their control. The chorus, with its repeated refrain of "tell me I asked for it," reinforces the idea that the singer is being made to feel responsible for the abuse they are suffering, even though it is entirely the fault of their partner.
The final lines of the song, with the repeated insistence that the singer would accept "anything but love," encapsulate the bleak and devastating reality of being trapped in an abusive relationship. The singer has been stripped of their sense of self and reduced to a state of emotional and spiritual death, with no hope of escape or redemption. It's a haunting and deeply powerful portrayal of the damage that can be wrought by a toxic and controlling partner.
