Crossfire Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
May form the whole
Or absolute goodness causes a war
No conclusion at all
The choice is up to whom
Neither others nor to you
Thousand years of fighting
Expectations and the tears
You will resist or abide
Life is like a mirror
Reverses what you see
Joy is turning to horror
You can never flee away
If darkness frightens
Then why do you sleep within
Just like a delicate prostitude
You can find that hard to see
Abusive saints all around
Define to what you need
If darkness frightens
Then why do you sleep within
Just take a look inside
Behind your frozen mask
By your blinded foresight
Tear your soul apart
That's the true question
Taking life or give it back
Don't you think of all the answers
When death is close at hand
If darkness frightens
Then why do you sleep within
If darkness frightens
Then why do you sleep within
The lyrics of "Inner Conflict" by Crossfire delve into the complex themes of duality, inner turmoil, and the eternal struggle between light and darkness that exist within every individual. The opening lines, "Horrific fragments I think / May form the whole," suggest that the singer is grappling with conflicting thoughts and emotions that are part of a larger internal battle. This internal conflict is further explored with the line "Absolute goodness causes a war / No conclusion at all," indicating that the pursuit of pure goodness can sometimes lead to chaos and uncertainty, with no clear resolution in sight.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of choice and personal responsibility, as represented by the lines "The choice is up to whom / Neither others nor to you." This suggests that the ultimate decision on how to navigate the conflicts within oneself lies with the individual alone, and cannot be influenced by external forces. The reference to "thousand years of fighting / Expectations and the tears" emphasizes the enduring nature of this internal struggle, which has persisted throughout history and is marked by both hope and despair.
The imagery of light and darkness is prevalent throughout the song, symbolizing opposing forces within the self. The singer questions why one would choose to embrace the darkness when it brings fear and uncertainty, as seen in the lines "If darkness frightens / Then why do you sleep within." This juxtaposition highlights the paradoxical nature of human existence, where individuals may be drawn to what they fear most and find it difficult to confront the truths hidden within themselves.
The lyrics culminate in a poignant reflection on the fragility of life and the inevitability of death, with the lines "Taking life or give it back / Don't you think of all the answers / When death is close at hand." This contemplation serves as a reminder of the fleeting nature of existence and the importance of confronting one's inner conflicts before it is too late. The repeated refrain of "If darkness frightens / Then why do you sleep within" challenges the listener to confront their own fears and delve deep into their psyche to find resolution and peace amidst the chaos of inner turmoil.
