There are other bands with the same name:
1) Crumb was an Irish band formed in Dublin in 2004 with no great plan in mind except to play back to basics short guitar pop tunes. They were Dez Foley (drums/vocals), Fiachra McCarthy (bass) and the late Derrick Dalton (guitar/vocals)
2) Crumb was an American alternative rock band formed in San Francisco in 1993 by vocalist Robby Cronholm and guitarist Mark Weinberg, longtime friends who first began writing and performing together while still in high school. After playing their earliest shows as an acoustic duo, Crumb soon swelled to a quartet, with any number of bassists and drummers passing through their ranks; in 1994, after self-releasing the LP Happy Blah, the group welcomed bassist Matt Powell before signing to Qwest Records to cut their 1996 major label debut Romance Is a Slowdance. With new bassist Jim Bowser and drummer Mike Dugan, Crumb resurfaced in 1998 with ...seconds, minutes, hours..., their first record for the Red Ant label.
3) Crumb was a New Zealand band active in the 1990s.

Not Again
Crumb Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
As the soot falls down around the answering machine
Not again where's the solace
You pretend that it's not over
And I think that I should be going
The clock is perpetually slowing
Banish the homework with a sigh and a yawn
As the bulb above burns out I turn the stereo on
You pretend that it's not over
And I think that I should be going
The clock is perpetually slowing
Not again where's the solace
You pretend that it's not over
And I know that I won't be staying
And the song will perpetually stop playing
You're like a broken record player
You always talk in your sleep
You won't stop spinning around
I'm beginning to think
You're like a broken record player
Of course you were
Now I must put you back in your sleeve
And you should save your receipts
And the soot still falls around the answering machine
Not again where's the solace
You pretend that it's not over
And I think that I should be going
The clock is perpetually slowing
Not again where's the solace
You pretend that it's not over
And I know that I won't be staying
And the song will perpetually stop playing
The lyrics in Crumb's song "Not Again" explore themes of loneliness and dissatisfaction in a relationship. The opening lines suggest regret and the inability to undo past mistakes. The persona mentions burning receipts, indicating a desire to erase the past, but acknowledges that it is impossible. The phrase "as the soot falls down around the answering machine" gives a visual of the atmosphere the persona is in- one of depression, stagnation, and numbness.
The chorus line "not again where's the solace, you pretend that it's not over" suggests the persona is trying to seek comfort or reassurance from their partner, who is unwilling or unable to give it. It is evident that the personal wants to leave and end the relationship, but perhaps fears the unknown and is unable to take action immediately. The line "the clock is perpetually slowing" emphasizes the feeling of stagnancy and the passage of time without any significant change, leading to frustration and dissatisfaction.
In the second half of the song, the persona compares their partner to a broken record player who talks in their sleep, suggesting that their partner's words have become repetition and lost meaning, contributing to their feeling of being stuck. The song ends with a note of finality and acceptance- the persona must put their partner back in their sleeve, and the song will perpetually stop playing, indicating that the relationship has ended, and there is closure.
Overall, Crumb's "Not Again" is an introspective song exploring the emotions of a breakup, the inability to change the past, and the need for closure and acceptance. The imagery of an unchanging and dark atmosphere, the stagnant passage of time, and the repetition of words and actions creates a feeling of being trapped, leading to the eventual resolution of ending the relationship.

Crumb was a very good, if short lived alternative rock band. Their last album "Seconds, Minutes, Hours" is worth tracking down. Unfortunately it is long out of print and there is confusion as a band that formed a few years ago is also using the name Crumb.

Awesome band that I've never heard, where do I find the entire album?!

+Danilo Campagnolli As it is now out of print I found it on ebay. Sad part is I had to miss the song for many years before committing to buying the album as no one had this song for download at the time. This is my favorite song by them and the band has been disbanded for many years. I heard about them from the old SciFi Channel show "First Wave". They took an unprecedented step in their music direction by allowing unknown artists from the US and Canada (Where Crumb is from) to send in music to them in hopes of having it played during the show. I think they actually used the whole song in the scene too.
