Love Twist
Culture Club Feat. Captain Crucial Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Footsteps, movements finding people
Clutch to the forbidden soul
Twisting words to find a reason
How am I supposed to throw
Questions that I cannot answer
Watch those boys, they dance and go
Hung up like the rules that made them
I'll be gone before you know

[Chorus:]
If I cry
Let me be told
Or give me something
That I can hold

Rhythms take me
Do I need it
Will we kiss, will you let go
Twisting hearts
Oh how we bleed them
How am I supposed to throw
Memories from where I keep them
Words will only make us slow
We are brave on the assumption
She'll be back
Before you know

[Chorus]

Footsteps, movements finding people
Clutch to the forbidden soul
Twisting words to find a reason
How am I supposed to throw
Questions that I cannot answer
Watch those boys they dance and go
Hung up like the rules that made them
I'll be gone before you know

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Love Twist" by Culture Club Featuring Captain Crucial seem to be exploring the complex and confusing nature of love and relationships. The first verse describes how trying to understand the motivations and actions of others (represented here by "finding people" and "clutch[ing] to the forbidden soul") can be like twisting words to try to find a reason. The singer is grappling with questions that they cannot answer, perhaps about why someone they care about has left them ("I'll be gone before you know"). The chorus expresses a desire for either emotional support (in the form of being allowed to cry) or something tangible to hold onto.

The second verse continues to explore this theme of uncertainty and pain in relationships, describing how memories can be both cherished and painful, and how words can slow down the process of healing. The singer remains hopeful, however, even in the face of uncertainty and heartbreak, relying on their bravery and the assumption that the person they love will return to them.

Overall, "Love Twist" is a poignant and emotionally complex song about the difficulties of love and the struggle to maintain hope in the face of heartbreak.

"Captain Crucial" was the 13 y/o brother of bassist Mikey Craig's girlfriend. My guess is that the girl and Mikey broke up, or that the parents got involved and stopped it. But I agree...both songs were wonderful.
