Curren$y had an underground hit in 2006, Where Da Cash At, which can be heard on several of Lil' Wayne's mixtapes, including Dedication 2. He was featured on Lil Wayne's song "Grown Man" from the album Tha Carter II. Due to certain issues concerning the release of his album Music 2 Fly 2, he left Young Money and formed his Fly Society crew with professional skateboarder and rapper Terry Kennedy.
He has since focused on his Jets movement, which helped introduce various rappers such as Trademark da Skydiver, Young Roddy, Fendi P and T.Y., as well as slightly reintroduce No Limit veteran Fiend to new audiences. He later started to work in New York with Ski Beatz and other MCs at Dame Dash's DD172; where he released Pilot Talk and its sequel Pilot Talk II both in 2010, and was also featured on several songs on Ski Beatz' 24 Hour Karate School. Since then, Curren$y has put out eight more albums, 25 EPs and 43 mixtapes.

This Is The Life
Curren$y Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Niggas fucking up, they ain't fucking with the pliz-anes
Hits from the bong, Cali strong, got me feeling like I
Could kill a man, but I would rather kill a baseline
These coke laced lines, too dope for most they turn their noses up
Real niggas turn the music up more
Lookin' out the cracked windows, sound and the smoke
Got you high off both, drugs, audio.
Get your cardio, in order bro
Running for the money, pockets double-stuffed, Oreo's
Party over here, bitches feeling like shit in the morning tho
It's the shit life with the Jets, with fair warning.
Hoe call who you gotta call before we be off I live far
And your phone might not have bars
Babydoll break that weed up for me
I break you off something,
Have you running your mouth,
Leading your friends to me
Ah
This is the life.
Break down and roll up.
This is the life.
Ah (lames catch feelings)
This is the life.
Poolside, on rooftops (Jets count millions)
This is the life.
Motor under glass like a pheasant
Jet plans under wraps like presents
Stayed in my lane, gained leverage
Executives checked my credit was merited
We hustling together better than
Going in blindly.
Expectations not met fools get ejected.
Dropped like a Pharcyde record
Gone into hiding like the canvas top of what I driving now
Riding up the block they think I'm moving in the autobot
Hop out, photo op.
Scan for the cops.
If they not about light something for the cool niggas
Roll another one for the ride
Keep that bag that's all you nigga, I'm out.
On another mission, steady paper twistin'
Even when I was a broke nigga, bitches paid attention
On another mission, steady paper twistin'
Even when I was a broke nigga, bitches paid attention
Ah
This is the life.
Break down and roll up.
(lames catch feelings)
This is the life.
Ah
This is the life.
Poolsides on rooftops
(Jets count millions)
This is the life
(Poolsides on rooftops)
This is the life.
Ah
This is the life.
Break down and roll up.
This is the life.
Ah
This is the life.
Poolsides on rooftops
This is the life
Curren$y's song "This is the Life" talks about the jet-setting lifestyle of a rapper who is high on drugs and music. He raps about still driving his Elco on hydraulics on "thiz-angs" while the others are ruining their cars. He boasts about smoking strong California weed ("hits from the bong") that makes him feel like he can kill a man but prefers to kill a baseline instead. In other words, he is more interested in producing and enjoying music than picking up fights with others. The chorus reveals that this is the life he chooses and loves - smoking, rolling, partying on rooftops, and counting millions like a jet setter.
He tells the "lames" not to catch feelings, implying that they should not try to act like him because they are not up to the task. Curren$y considers himself a "real nigga" who turns the music up when he hears "coke laced lines" that others might turn their noses up to. He believes that the music and the smoke that is inside his car have the power to take him and his listeners to a different world where they can get "high off both drugs and audio." Curren$y warns his counterparts that they do not have the heart for it and need to get their cardio in order to run for the money.
In conclusion, Curren$y's "This is the Life" is a ballad to a rapper's lifestyle, which is a perfect blend of music, weed, and wealth. Curren$y believes that he is doing what thousands of people dream of every day - and that is living the high life. He seems content with his lifestyle and has no qualms about showing off his wealth and happiness.

Gone into hiding like the canvas top of what I driving now
Riding up the block they think I'm moving in the autobot
Hop out, photo op.
Scan for the cops.

On another mission, steady paper twistin'
Even when I was a broke nigga, bitches paid attention
I am driving a car with a canvas top that is now hidden from view. As I am driving up the block, some people think that I am a character from the Transformers movie. I get out, pose for a photo, and look around for any police officers. If they are not in the area, we can all relax and smoke marijuana. We can smoke another one while we ride; you can keep the bag of marijuana. I am always working hard to make money and attract girls, even when I was broke.
Poolsides on rooftops
We are always living the best life, relaxing by the pool or on a luxurious rooftop.
