You're so like the lady with the mystic smile
Is it only cause you're lonely they have blamed you
For that Mona Lisa strangeness in your smile
Do you smile to tempt a lover Mona Lisa?
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart?
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there, and they die there
Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art.
Do you smile to tempt a lover Mona Lisa?
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart?
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there, and they die there
Are you warm, are you real Mona Lisa?
Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art.
Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa.
In Curtis Hobock's song "Mona Lisa," the lyrics explore the enigmatic smile of the famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci. The song begins with the line "Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa men have named you," acknowledging the fame and attention she has received throughout history. The lyrics suggest that the reason for her mystery and strangeness in her smile may be due to her loneliness and isolation. The singer questions whether the smile is meant to tempt a lover or to conceal a broken heart.
The repetition of the lines "Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep, they just lie there, and they die there" emphasizes the theme of loneliness and isolation from reality. It suggests that the Mona Lisa has been idealized and romanticized to the point where people project their own fantasies and desires onto her without truly understanding or knowing who she is. The song ends on the repeated line "Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa," emphasizing the subject of the painting as a symbol of human fascination and longing for beauty and perfection.
