Their first album, Broadcast, released in 1986, was the first U.S. number one album for Richard Branson's Virgin Records. It included "(I Just) Died in Your Arms", their most popular single, which reached number one in the U.S., and number four in the UK; the album also yielded an additional U.S. top-ten hit with "I've Been in Love Before". The band received a Grammy nomination in 1987, for "Best New Artist".
After the band broke up in 1993, guitarist Kevin MacMichael joined forces with Robert Plant, and played on his critically acclaimed Fate of Nations album. MacMichael died of lung cancer on New Year's Eve 2002, at his home in Nova Scotia, at the age of 51.
The band was reformed in 2006 by Nick Van Eede, with a completely new line-up. They have released one album, Grinning Souls, in February 2006 on the Hypertension record label. The new band toured Germany early the same year and are currently planning tours in the UK and Denmark.
The Last Thing
Cutting Crew Lyrics

I won't wait for you, I won't wait for you
In the morning
'cause the last thing that I want
Is to see you cry
and I won't ask of you, and I won't ask of you
'cause I don't want to be the one
To see you cry
help me mama, help me mama
Through these things I feel
Help me father, help me father
Through these things I feel
So I can believe...
so I won't shelter you, I won't shelter you
In the morning
'cause the last thing that I want
Is to see you cry
help me mama, help me mama
Through these things I feel
Help me father, help me father
Through these things I feel
So I can believe...
so I won't give to you, I won't give to you
Forgiveness
'cause the last thing that I want
Is to see you cry
No the last thing that I want
Is to see you cry
No the last thing that I want
Is to see you cry
In Cutting Crew's song The Last Thing, the lyrics are about someone who has decided not to wait for their partner because they don't want to see them cry. The singer is not interested in knowing their partner's secrets and they won't shield them from things either. The lines "Help me mama, help me mama, through these things I feel, help me father, help me father, through these things I feel, so I can believe..." suggest that the singer is struggling emotionally and needs the guidance and support of their parents to make sense of their feelings.
The chorus repeats the phrase "the last thing that I want is to see you cry" three times. This repetition emphasizes the singer's desire to avoid causing emotional pain and highlights the importance of expressing oneself clearly in order to prevent misunderstanding. The decision to not give forgiveness also shows a reluctance to forgive and forget, which suggests that there may have been a breach of trust or an irreparable damage to the relationship.
Overall, the lyrics of The Last Thing convey a sense of emotional turmoil and a need for clarity, guidance, and support. The singer is determined to avoid causing further pain and is struggling to make sense of their feelings.
