The simple deform only deforms on Z axis for me (2.93). I'm sure I'm missing something. I subdivided by 100, so it's detailed. Trying to turn a plane into cylinder.

at 6:35 you show that your svg mesh is made up of squares, how do you create this type of mesh? When I converts the curve svg to a mesh, my vertices are all horizontal or messed up in some way, not nice and square like yours. Thank you!

That's no svg, svg doesn't give you the surface deform modifier option and yours looks 3d🤔
