1.) Not the entire shoe is biobased. It is more than 50% currently and this material is made out of castor beans.
2.) No, this shoe is not designed for composting. We need the material back to re-make new shoes.

a) Yes, we will need to add a little bit of virgin material to the recycling process.
b) We start with using the recycled material for our speedboards first and then also into all the other components of the shoe.
c) Just from material science, a material can't be used indefinitely. So we don't know yet how many times we can recycle the material. This is all part of this journey we are on and we are learning. The subscription models helps us to get the shoes back so that we can work on the performance of the recycled material.

The reason why we need the shoe back is so we can create new ones. With circular products we have a zero waste and a reduced impact on the environment. That linear line? Now a virtuous circle of Produce–Use–Reuse–Produce…
We call the Cyclon shoe “The Shoe You’ll Never Own” for good reason. The Cyclon service wouldn’t meet our sustainability goals if we didn’t get them back. On our mission to use less virgin material, we need the shoes back to keep recycling them so Cyclon is only available on subscription.
On our mission to make Cyclon as sustainable as possible, we ask our subscribers only to exchange their shoes once they’ve been used for their entire lifecycle. We expect the Cyclon running shoe to provide you with unmatched performance up to 400km (1000 laps around an athletics track or almost 2.5 Mont Blanc Ultra Marathons). That’s a lifespan of around 6-9 months so we’re happy to exchange your shoe twice a year.
Hopefully that gives you a better understanding on why we are big into circularity.

Great idea. I really like your concept and that you started thinking sustainability and circularity comprehensively. However, for me as an occasional runner, the abo model is very expensive. Leasing the shoe for three years will cost me a thousand euros (am I right?). Maybe you could think of a price that ist variably oriented on the wearing of the shoe (e.g. starting with 29,95€ for the first year than 24,95 € for the second year and 19,95€ for the third if you are still wearing the same shoe)? Lifetime extension and creating long-lasting product is also part of the Circular Economy and could be a valuable strategy for you and for your costumers (saving resources and money)

Thanks so much for your comment and it's a fair question you have there!
We will use 100% recycled cardboxes starting in season 2021. Cardboxes play a crucial role in the logistics process (keep shoes clean, dry, stackability of shoes etc.) so it is not that easy to get rid of the boxes. But we’ve started working on this topic and watch out, the Cyclon will have a different packaging concept, so stay tuned!

And now I really want to try it.
I have been using on cloudrush for over 2months now, and it works really great on a dry surface. However, when the road is damp, not even wet, the shoes can perform well. It can be very slippery. I would like to know if on address this issue.
