The charging pipe and fiddle-led combo that has seen the 'Pirates of Puirt' rocking far and wide (and nominated for best group at the trad music awards) is now joined by the amazing vocals of (mod gold medalist & Trad Music Awards; Gaelic Singer of the year nominee 2006) Calum Alex MacMillan from Lewis, adding the depth and power of Gaelic song to an already phenomenal instrumental arsenal.

@@QuirkyMcArdle well here's a translation, but remember that in puirt-a-beul what counts is the sound and rhythm of the words, not their meaning:
"Dance, dance, we'd dance with Allan / Dance, dance, Allan would dance with us
Mary the tailor would reel, Mary the tailor would dance / Mary the tailor would reel, until she'd become ill
Even though Mary was lame and her knee was twisted / She'd dance happily on the fine floor"
The slip jig that follows is called "Angus John MacNeil Of Barra"

Dhannsamaid Le Ailean
[Fonn / Tune]
[Séisd:]
Dhannsadh, gun dannsadh,
Dhannsamaid le Ailean;
Dhannsadh, gun dannsadh,
Dhannsadh Ailean leinn.
Ruidhleadh Màiri Tàillear,
Dhannsadh Màiri Tàillear,
Ruidhleadh Màiri Tàillear,
Gus na dh'fhàs i tinn.
Ged bha Màiri crùbach
Agus car 'na glùinean,
Dhannsadh i gu sunndach
Air an ùrlar ghrinn.
