The band's first release was the independently produced "D.A.N. Zine" (2014), which was followed by "EP" (2015) – their debut EP – and a performance at Rookie A Go Go at Fuji Rock Festival 2015. Following much anticipation, the band released their self-titled debut album in April 2016.

These lyrics are from the song "Zidane" by D.A.N. The lyrics describe a situation where the singer has given up on a mundane and ordinary romance that may have once existed. The use of the metaphor of a mermaid drowning at the water's edge and a lady forgetting how to dance suggests that the singer has moved on from a relationship that had lost its spark and excitement, leaving them feeling stuck and uninspired. The repetition of the phrase "幸いにまともにあきらめた" emphasizes the relief and freedom that comes with being able to let go and move on.
The overall theme of the song is about the complexity of human relationships and the necessary process of letting go in order to move forward. The use of mermaids and dancers as metaphors adds a sense of mystery and whimsy to the lyrics, highlighting the emotional depth and complexity involved in the process of letting go. The emotional honesty and introspectiveness of the lyrics are often characteristic of D.A.N.'s music.
