Miles Away
D.A.R.K. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm out in the cold
I gaze through your window
The music's on
I'm watching you sway
Just yesterday
In February's dark
We watched the stars
Explode until day break

How can you stand right there
And be a thousand miles away?
A thousand miles away

I saw a light in your eyes
It was the animal kind
All fierce and bright
Now every color fades
I'm out in the snow
In your golden glow
I feel no heat
From my feet up to my face

How can you stand right there

And be a thousand miles away?
A thousand miles away

Overall Meaning

The song "Miles Away" by D.A.R.K, is a haunting and melancholic composition about the feeling of distance between two people. The lyrics describe the singer watching a person through their window while they are dancing to music. The scene reminds the singer of a time when they were together, watching the stars until sunrise. However, now the two are a thousand miles apart, separated by something that can't be bridged.

The singer feels out in the cold, watching the other person dance in the warmth of their room. The music is on, but the distance is too great for the singer to hear it. The second verse describes how they see a light in the other's eyes, but it fades away, leaving the singer out in the snow, feeling no warmth. The animal light in the other's eyes indicates something primal and instinctual, which the singer can't connect to anymore. The final repetition of the refrain, "How can you stand right there and be a thousand miles away?" emphasizes the distance and the ache it brings.

"Miles Away" is a deeply emotional song that captures the feeling of missing someone. The lyrics are open to interpretation, but they seem to suggest that the distance between the two people is too great to be overcome. The song creates a poignant atmosphere, using descriptive language to convey the image of two people who are close yet far away.

She could've and should've just gone solo. 😔 ✌

@bernadettemccrea1229

She had a solo album.., after they went on. hiatus… and i ONLY just heard that even though i was a huge Cranberries fan. Sounds like the labels probably were afraid if she were too successful they wouldnt get any more Cranberry albums or tours that made them so much $$ cuz for such a huge star there was zero wprd spread of her solo album.

@chclausonful

The leader of this band killed an icon. This song is synthesized crap.
