Hot Lava
D.V.D.A.; Perry Farrell; featuring DJ Nu-Mark Lyrics

Oh, baby, every time that we kiss, hot lava!
And every time that we make love, that's lava, hot lava!
It's lava so hot it makes me sweat,
And lava so warm and red and wet!
Mountain is rumbling, must find a safer place,
Soon the wrath of Pele, will fall upon your face.
Great nectar of the gods, spews rock from Pinutabo,
Mixed with a woman's sweat, makes the lava we know.
Oh, baby, every time that we kiss, hot lava!
And every time that we make love, that's lava, hot lava!
It's lava so hot it makes me sweat,
And lava so warm and red and wet!
Burning through the forest, where red hot lava flow,
Rolls down the island's body, and into the ocean below!
When it meets the cool cool water, here's your main sludge of living rich
Magma flowing into a subaqueous environment produces pillar lava
Hydrostatic pressure of sea water tends to inhibit the vesicle size of the basalt!
Oh, baby, every time that we kiss, hot lava!
And every time that we make love, that's lava, hot lava!
It's lava so hot it makes me sweat,
And lava so warm and red and wet!
And after the eruption,
You lay dormant for a while..
Let's just hold each other and talk.
For now, Pele sleeps..
Oh, baby, every time that we kiss, hot lava!
And every time that we make love, that's lava, hot lava!

It's lava so hot it makes me sweat,
And lava so warm and red and wet!

Overall Meaning

The song "Hot Lava" by D.V.D.A./DJ Nu-Mark/Perry Farrell is about the passionate, intense nature of love, and compares it to the unstoppable force of a volcanic eruption. The lyrics are full of metaphors and references to volcanic activity and the Hawaiian goddess of fire, Pele.

The first verse suggests that each kiss and moment of intimacy is like hot lava, making the singer sweat and feel overwhelmed by the intense passion. The second verse references the danger of living near a volcano and being subject to Pele's wrath, comparing the volcanic rock spewing from Pinatubo to the sweat mixed with a woman's body during sex, creating the lava we know.

The chorus repeats the imagery of hot, red, and wet lava, and describes it burning through the forest and flowing into the ocean. The bridge introduces some scientific language, describing how magma flowing underwater produces pillar lava, and how the pressure of seawater affects the vesicle size of basalt.

The final verse suggests a moment of calm reflection after the eruption, with Pele sleeping peacefully. Overall, the song celebrates the explosive, fiery nature of love and the raw energy it can generate.

3rd verse lyrics are way off (easy to see as it doesn't make sense). What it should be:

When it meets the cool, cool water, there's a big flow of the living
rich magma flowing into an obsequious environment. Produces pillow lava.
Hydrostatic pressure of sea water tends to inhibit the vestal size of the basalt

Listen carefully and those (above) are indeed the lyrics

(Geology rocks!)

EDIT: Turns out this mistake is EVERYWHERE on the internets - lolz

A life changing album for me. This song, along with System Of A Down's song and Crystal Method's song got me into metal/heavy rock while Rancid and Joe Strummer's songs got me into punk. I was 13 then. Now I'm 28 and still into that stuff so I've been listening to that kind of music most of my life now!
