Famed for their ability in both dancing and singing, and for their good looks, Da Pump's debut as four members, Issa, Ken, Yukinari, and Shinobu, came in 1997 with the song "Feelin' Good - It's PARADISE". The group originally came from Okinawa Actors School but are now part of the Avex Network and are produced by Akio Togashi. Their songs tend to have a quick tempo and often include elements of rap. Da Pump often appears in TV shows, movies, and magazines throughout Japan.
Following a DUI arrest in 2005, Shinobu temporarily suspended all activities from the group. However, on 7 April 2006, he officially announced that he has left the group. The remaining members of DA PUMP will continue on as three. During his leave, he returned to Okinawa and in a letter posted on his management company's website he explained that during his time there he felt an urge to perform the music of the perfecture and with those sentiments decided to leave the group. In December 2008, Yukinari also announced his leaving the group, and within hours, it was announced that Da Pump would add seven new members and become a multimedia entertainment group. In December 2009, Ken left the group to pursue a solo career, leaving Issa as the only remaining member from the groups original lineup.
In mid-2018, Da Pump made their comeback with the song "U.S.A.", which became a smash hit and somewhat popularized the famous dance move created by American rapper Blocboy JB, the Shoot, in Japan, as a result of the music video and choreography using said dance move during the chorus of the song.

The lyrics to "GET ON THE DANCE FLOOR" by DA PUMP describe a high-energy and funky atmosphere. The song starts off by introducing the group, referring to themselves as the "Funky 4" and emphasizing their connection through the four microphones that produce their funky sound. They invite everyone, including the listeners, to join them in getting funky and experiencing the fresh beats and super duper flavor they bring. They mention their B-Boys-like action and footwork, implying that their performance is dynamic and impressive.
The lyrics also express the uniqueness of the group, highlighting that their style cannot be imitated by fake players. They encourage the audience not to miss out on their performances. They mention rolling the microphone casually, creating a playful and confident vibe.
The song then transitions to a call-and-response interaction, with the performers encouraging the listeners to check out and enjoy the music. They mention the concept of "DP Old School Flavor" and how it's an original flavor that can be felt naturally in the body, making it easy to groove and move smoothly. The lyrics express the excitement and fun of the funky people present at the party.
The chorus repeats the calls to get on the dance floor and rock the microphone. It urges everyone to keep dancing, as the funky beat and sound continue relentlessly. The lyrics emphasize the competitiveness of the dance floor, where those who stand out and show their energy are considered winners. B-boys and girls are encouraged not to stop, and hands are encouraged to be raised to join in the excitement.
The song continues to describe the rock show time and the heartbeats it brings. The lyrics express the urgency and intensity of the moment, urging everyone to jump into the action and let their heartbeats guide them. The emphasis is on the party atmosphere and the enjoyment of the music and dance.
The lyrics then mention the rapper's high level of skill on the microphone, and the unity and resonance within the music. They describe a vibration that never stops and a funky sound that has been buried in the flow of time. The lyrics suggest that this funky sound has a global significance and is like a world heritage. They refer to the playfulness of the beats, which were born from non-existent rules, and the mix of traditional and new elements that transmit something important.
The song concludes with further calls to join the dance floor and enjoy the moment, expressing the desire to create a memorable and ready time with the person you dance with. The lyrics reiterate the invitation to step forward, move your body, and get on the dance floor to fully experience the excitement and energy of the song.
