History
When he was growing up, he found that listening to his parents was unbearable. He got a job as a newspaper boy at age 7 to support his family. Once he grew up, he developed a reputation and following as a school and block party DJ extraordinaire, Jazzy Jeff was the feature of the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. As a duo, they had several gold and platinum-selling albums and singles in the late 1980s and early 1990s, earning them the first rap Grammy ever presented in 1989 for Parents Just Don't Understand. When Smith branched out into television with the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Jazzy Jeff played a recurring character named "Jazz", Smith's best friend on the show. The two characters always greeted each other with their signature handshake (swinging mid-five, point-back/snap with both characters saying "Pssh!").
Jazz' trademarks include being physically ejected from the house by Uncle Phil (James Avery), screaming as he went flying out the front door. This was referenced in the song "N.Y, N.Y." by Lloyd Banks from his second album Rotten Apple, with the lyric "I throw a bitch out the crib like Jazzy Jeff". [1]
DJ Jazzy Jeff is not to be confused with Jeffrey Myree from the earlier hip hop group Funky Four Plus One, which in fact filed and won a lawsuit over the name Jazzy Jeff against Jeff Townes and Jive records when they signed DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince. After DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince broke up, Townes went on to become a prominent R&B, soul, and neo soul record producer, establishing the A Touch of Jazz production company in his native Philadelphia. Among the artists that Jazzy Jeff has helped develop are Jill Scott and Musiq. Even though he separated from Will Smith as music partners, they are still best friends and still occasionally work together. Some songs by Will Smith were produced by Jeff Townes (Ex. Here He Comes), and he has performed on some songs by Will Smith such as "So Fresh" and "Potnas". In addition, he appears in several of Smith's music videos such as "Will2K", "Freakin' It", and "Party Starter". On some occasions, he makes appearances with Smith on live concerts, producing DJ scratches.
He, along with DJ Cash Money, is credited with making the transform scratch famous.
On July 2, 2005, DJ Jazzy Jeff performed with Will Smith at the Live 8 concert in Philadelphia. In the past, Will has performed on concerts with DJ Jazzy Jeff for the scratches. Moreover, Will acknowledges him in his music like "Comin' To The Stage" from the album Lost & Found or "Potnas" in his album Willennium.
His 2007 release TROTM (The Return of the Magnificent) is a classic work which returns to the roots of hip-hop with a neo-soul mixture included. This album featured numerous collaborations with old school and new school artists including CL Smooth, Big Daddy Kane, Pos from De La Soul, Method Man, Peedi Crakk (a remake of Brand New Funk), Rhymefest, and Raheem DeVaughn.
In 2007, he appeared with Rhymefest in the video DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Fest directed by Konee Rok, in which he makes music in his home recording studio with Rhymefest and they reveal that they are working on an album together called "I'm the DJ, I'm the Rapper".

Can I get a mic check 1-2?
I'm in the spot and I need to
Ask you know I want to
Grab the m-i-c and spit somethin' nice
Drop a cold jewel for brothers
And for the ladies in the joint
You know I'm glad you came
Please excuse me if I know
You I forgot your name
I got a bad memory but you remember me
You ain't the first to say we had intemacy
But anyway good to see you again
Party started at 9: 30 hope to
See you at 10: 00
Can't talk to you now 'cause
You're siggy with him
But I'm a slide to the side and
I'm a leave you a pen
You know what to do just write your number
And we could hook up and
Have a private slumber
I love the way the body just move the sound
That's why a brother always
At the music lounge yeah
Sit back relax and enjoy the sound
And stand up and get live
And just move around
You are now in tune to the music lounge
And the host is the brother
With the groovin' sound
Sit back relax and enjoy the sound
And stand up and get live
And just move around
You are now in tune to the music lounge
And the host is the brother
With the groovin' sound
Can I get a mic check 3-4?
The crowd jumpin' up and down like a see-saw
The place to be is where I'm
At and y'all here too
Somebody said all the is all near you
'Cause I'm a magnet for
Beats that are classic
Shorties with bodies that are fantastic
The music is like an afrodesiac
But other brothers on the mic
You could see me at
And ain't a thing better than
A good soul clap
Whoever got the microphone let me hold that
And I'm a show that I feel the rhythm in vibe
Those who drive by park they're
Cars and come inside
'Cause I'm attractive but not in a vein sense
Sorta like here tonight I'm the main event
So if you like what you here embrace the jam
Everybody in the spot just wave you hands
Yeah
Sit back relax and enjoy the sound
And stand up and get live
And just move around
You are now in tune to the music lounge
And the host is the brother
With the groovin' sound
Sit back relax and enjoy the sound
And stand up and get live
And just move around
You are now in tune to the music lounge
And the host is the brother
With the groovin' sound
Can I get a mic check 5-6?

Gotta bring the live shit
To inquiring people inspiring
Feelin' down I'm here to make
You feel alive again get your soul movin'
This hit is a soul movement
Bodies are you of in Home Improvement
Build with me relax back and chill with me
I put my feelings on this paper
So get real with me don't leave me hangin'
5 on the black side
I'm all about soul music and black pride
What else is it i'm glad y'all came to visit
Y'all really in for a treat
'cause the flow exquisite see for yourself
Or better yet you gotta hear it
Not with your ears though, but your spirit
Just close your 2 eyes and open your 3rd
And witness vibrations spoken in word
Word y'all
Sit back relax and enjoy the sound
And stand up and get live
And just move around
You are now in tune to the music lounge
And the host is the brother
With the groovin' sound
Sit back relax and enjoy the sound
And stand up and get live
And just move around
You are now in tune to the music lounge
And the host is the brother
With the groovin' sound
Sit back relax and enjoy the sound
And stand up and get live
And just move around
You are now in tune to the music lounge
And the host is the brother
With the groovin' sound

The lyrics to DJ Jazzy Jeff's song "Musik Lounge" featuring Oddisee depict a lively atmosphere at a music lounge where the host, who is the brother with the groovin' sound, encourages everyone to relax, enjoy the music, and have a good time. The song starts with a mic check, indicating that the artist wants to make sure his voice is heard clearly. He addresses the crowd, expressing his desire to grab the microphone and share something nice, dropping knowledge for those looking for wisdom and providing a vibe for those seeking a good time.
The lyrics also touch on interactions with the ladies in the room, expressing apology for potentially forgetting names due to a bad memory, but acknowledging that some connections have been made. The artist then mentions a particular lady who is currently engaged in conversation with someone else, but he respects that and offers her a pen to write her number, suggesting a potential future encounter. The song emphasizes the power of music to move bodies, create a sense of unity, and evoke positive emotions.
Overall, "Musik Lounge" portrays the vibrant energy and social dynamics of a music lounge, where people come together to enjoy good music, have memorable experiences, and connect with each other.
