The Foundation
DJ Vadim Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
The Foundation (The Origin Of) by DJ Vadim is a song that delves into the roots of hip hop and explores the early days of the genre. The song starts with a sample that talks about the "foundation" of hip hop being built in the South Bronx in the 1970s. This sets the tone for the rest of the song which focuses on the early pioneers of hip hop who laid the groundwork for the genre to become what it is today.
Throughout the song, DJ Vadim references a number of key figures in hip hop history, including Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, and Afrika Bambaataa. He speaks of Kool Herc's legendary parties in the Bronx where he would isolate the "break" in a song and extend it, creating the blueprint for modern day hip hop beats. He also mentions Grandmaster Flash's innovation of the "scratch" technique, which became a staple of DJing in hip hop.
Vadim also touches on the cultural and social significance of hip hop, as a means of expression for marginalized communities. He speaks of the power of hip hop to bring people together and to give voice to those who have been silenced. Ultimately, the song is a tribute to the pioneers of hip hop and a recognition of their lasting impact on music and culture.
