Karma Chameleon
DJ Yoda Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dessert loving in your eyes all the way.
If I listen to your lies,
would you say I'm a man without conviction,
I'm a man who doesn't know
how to sale a contradiction?
You come and go, you come and go.

Karma, karma, karma, karma, karma, chameleon,
You come and go, you come and go.
Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams:
red, gold, and green, red, gold, and green.

Didn't you hear your wicked words ever'y day.
And you used to be so sweet.
I heard you say that my love was an addiction.
When we cling, our love is strong.
When you go, you're gone forever.
You string along, you string along.

Karma, karma, karma, karma, karma, chameleon,
You come and go, you come and go.
Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams:
red, gold, and green, red, gold, and green.

Ev'ry day is like survival.
You're my lover, not my rival.

Ev'ry day is like survival.
You're my lover, not my rival.

Karma, karma, karma, karma, karma, chameleon,
You come and go, you come and go.

Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams:
red, gold, and green, red, gold, and green.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of DJ Yoda's song Karma Chameleon describe a tumultuous relationship with someone who changes their behavior and feelings often, making it difficult for the singer to keep up. The line "dessert loving in your eyes all the way" suggests that the object of the singer's affections is sweet and enticing, but ultimately unfulfilling. The lyrics also suggest that the object of the singer's affections is manipulative, "If I listen to your lies, would you say I'm a man without conviction, I'm a man who doesn't know how to sale a contradiction?".

The chorus, which repeats the line "Karma, karma, karma, karma, karma, chameleon", references the idea that one's actions and choices have consequences that come back around, like the color-changing abilities of a chameleon. The singer expresses frustration with the person they are in love with, but also acknowledges that the love is strong ("When we cling, our love is strong") despite the problems in the relationship.

Boy George still has the voice and smile I fell for almost 30 years ago. He is gorgeous than ever in this music video. This video brings me back a lot of old memories. He makes the world a very happy place indeed. His handsome face is addictive. What a treasure he is! There is no one like him. I am glad to live in the world he exists. It seems like I was waiting for this music video for a long time. Now I see it and I am a very happy person.

@SoulOnFireInside

I saw George on today's This Morning, talking about the revival of Taboo. I was so pleased to see him looking happy and healthy. He agreed that he's in a good place right now so that makes this song all the more apt. I think it's great and just seeing his mischievious grin makes me laugh. I really hope this does well!

It is hard for rock stars because they peak so young, and then there are another 50 or 60 years to find meaning in their lives.
