Mirrors
Dâm-Funk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

In eighteenth century
There was a man who!
Invented the sunglasses
But he didn't know
How great was the achievement
It was!
The beginning of new live
Your thoughts are not to guess
The only one mirror of your mind
Of your mind, uu
Covered by the colored glass
But
The biggest mystery
That it reflects disco light
And what happens at the night

That's funk that's why
That's funk that's why ihuu i huu
That's funk that's why ihuu I huu

In the evening there was a party
In the boogie town
Boogie town
Inside dance floor and people crowd
In the middle at the top
There was something strange
Something strange
Disco ball with the glasses
Looks like monkey head

It turned out that
It was disco head
Monkey by the glasses
Give the beams beams back
Dazzle people by the light
By the light
Change the sadness into
Happiness style
That's funk that's why
That's funk that's why ihuu ihuu
That's funk that's why ihuu ihuu

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dâm-Funk's song "Mirrors" delve into a narrative set in the eighteenth century, centered around the invention of sunglasses. The inventor of the sunglasses is portrayed as someone unaware of the significance of his creation, with the lyrics emphasizing the transformative impact of this invention on people's lives. The sunglasses are described as the "only one mirror of your mind," symbolizing introspection and self-reflection through the colored lenses. The mention of disco light and nighttime events suggests a correlation between the sunglasses and the vibrant, lively atmosphere of parties and gatherings.

The repetition of the phrase "That's funk that's why" throughout the song underscores the connection between the sunglasses, disco music, and the overall funk vibe of the era. The lyrics paint a picture of a party in a place called Boogie Town, where a disco ball adorned with sunglasses reflects light and energy onto the crowd. The imagery of a disco ball resembling a monkey head adds a whimsical and surreal element to the narrative, further enhancing the playful and creative nature of funk music.

As the story unfolds, the disco ball's reflection is described as transforming sadness into happiness, symbolizing the power of music and dance to uplift spirits and bring joy to people's lives. The lyrics invite the listener to join the festivities in Boogie Town, emphasizing the communal and celebratory essence of dancing and having fun together. The repeated exhortation to "dance with me" echoes the invitation to embrace the spirit of funk and revel in the magic of music and movement.

In essence, "Mirrors" by Dâm-Funk celebrates the interplay between self-reflection, creativity, and the joyous energy of funk music. Through a whimsical narrative set in a bygone era, the song evokes a sense of nostalgia for a time when invention, music, and communal celebration intersected to create moments of pure delight and transformation. The mirrors mentioned in the lyrics symbolize not just physical reflections but also the internal reflections that occur when we engage with music, art, and the shared experience of revelry.

Saw him this saturday at splash festival, Germany. He rocked a small crowd of about two hundred people, jumped in the stage with his keyboard and took the time to make some small talk with everyone afterwards AND the show itself was awesome. Great musician
