Daisy the Great Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh

I'm still inside
Thinking if we all don't die
I'll be better when we go outside again
I won't be such a shit friend
I'll see you when I can, I will
Ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh
Ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh

I'm still inside
Thinking if we all don't die
I'll be better when we go outside again

I won't be such a shit friend
I'll see you when I can, I will

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Daisy the Great's "Friend" convey the sentiment that the pandemic has not only physically restricted our movements, but has also caused us to reflect on our relationships with others. The opening lines of "Ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh" impart a sense of longing and introspection. The singer notes that they are still inside and contemplating the possibility of mortality, which has prompted them to consider their relationships with those around them. The first two lines suggest a sense of urgency and a desire to make amends, as the singer confesses "I'll be better when we go outside again, I won't be such a shit friend".

The repetition of "ahh" after these lines serves as a musical interlude and conveys an emotional depth to the lyrics, emphasizing the gravity of the singer's sentiments. The final lines, "I'll see you when I can, I will" indicate a hopeful and optimistic outlook towards the future, although there is an uncertainty in the singer's tone, as they are not sure when they will be able to see their friends in person again.

Overall, the lyrics to "Friend" touch upon themes of introspection, regret, and optimism, with a melody that is both haunting and beautiful.

I feel like I’ve actually been a shittier friend since the pandemic started. So little socializing led me to forget how to properly socialize, so, when I started talking to people again, most of them viewed me as an asshole.

Now that the pandemic is (hopefully) almost over, I only have one friend still willing and able to meet up with me in person, but it doesn’t matter anymore because I developed agoraphobia at some point during all of this, and, thus, I haven’t gone outside in almost a month now.
