Well you can bump and grind
If it's good for your mind
Well you can twist and shout
Let it all hang out
But you won't fool the children of the revolution
No no no
Well you can Terraplane
In the falling rain
I drive a Rolls Royce
'Cos its good for my voice
But you won't fool the children of the revolution
No you won't fool the children of the revolution
No no no
Yeah!
But you won't fool the children of the revolution
No you won't fool the children of the revolution
No you won't fool the children of the revolution
No you won't fool the children of the revolution
No way!
Hey
Wow
! Dakota Star's song "Children Of The Revolution" is a rallying call to the younger generation to stand up for themselves and not be swayed by the glamour and materialism of the older generation. The lyrics suggest that while the older generation might be content with bumping and grinding, twisting and shouting, and enjoying material possessions such as Rolls Royces, the younger generation sees through these superficialities and is not fooled by them.
The phrase "children of the revolution" can be interpreted as the younger generation coming of age during a time when societal changes were taking place, such as the civil rights movement, women's liberation, and LGBTQ+ rights. The rebellion and revolution that characterized these movements were embodied by young people who challenged the status quo and demanded change. Dakota Star's song encourages this new generation to continue this spirit of revolution and not be swayed by the superficial distractions of the older generation.
In essence, the song is a call to action for younger generations to take up the mantle of activism, to continue pushing for progressive social, political, and economic change. As the chanting chorus suggests, "No you won't fool the children of the revolution", younger generations are fully aware of the issues facing them and are ready to join hands and create a better world.
