Hockey Sweater
Dala Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't make me smile
I know that you're leaving
You life isn't here
Underneath the Christmas lights

But I'll be wearing
Your hockey sweater
And you'll be waiting
Somewhere where it never snows

Don't say the words
My heart is breaking
And I'm on the stairs
Watching you drive away

And I'll be wearing
Your hockey sweater
And you'll be waiting
Somewhere where it never snows

Four corners to my bed
Four angels 'round my head
Four corners to my bed
Four angels 'round my head
One to watch and two to pray
One to keep all cares away

And I'll be wearing
Your hockey sweater
And you'll be waiting
Somewhere, somewhere

And I'll be wearing
Your hockey sweater
And you'll be waiting
Somewhere where it never snows

Four corners to my bed
Four angels 'round my head

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dala's song "Hockey Sweater" convey a sense of sadness and longing as the singer knows that their loved one is leaving, and they are left alone under the Christmas lights. The repetition of the lines "And I'll be wearing your hockey sweater, and you'll be waiting somewhere where it never snows" creates a sense of melancholy and nostalgia, as the singer reflects on the memories of their time together. The imagery of the four angels around the singer's bed creates a sense of comfort and protection, but ultimately, the words "my heart is breaking" reveal the singer's emotional state as they watch their loved one leave.

Overall, the song conveys a sense of loss and longing, as the singer wishes for the return of their loved one but knows that it may never happen. The use of familiar objects, such as the hockey sweater, creates a tangible connection to the memory of the loved one and serves as a symbol of the emotional ties that remain even after they are physically gone.

Amazing performance live. Listen to the studio version of this song where the girls add another set of hamonies. Positively ethereal! I almost skipped listening to this song because of the odd title.

@Andrea320 I 100% agree, they are insanely better live. If only they could capture that sound better on their CD recordings, they'd be stars.

@Andrea320 Their CDs are good, but their live performances are so much better, yes! Hopefully they'll come to Seattle sometime. (We're not that far from Canada, right?)
