1) Dala is an acoustic-folk two-piece musical group, made up by Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther, both of Scarborough, Ontario. Since their formation in 2002, Carabine and Walther's rich vocal harmonies, their sense of humour, and their appearances at Canadian music festivals has largely increased their fan base across Canada. Both girls were raised in musical families and utilize their skills with both guitar and piano.
Dala released their first album in 2005, titled This Moment is a Flash. Since then they have released two other albums, including their most recent one Who Do You Think You Are. Their official site is: http://www.dalagirls.com/
2) Dala was the solo musical project of Dave Allison. He started composing music in 1992. His music is electronic and largely experimental, recalling such artists as The Black Dog, The Future Sound of London, and Autechre. He has played live several times. His website can be found at: http://www.hybridproductions.org/dala/
In 2007, he changed the name to Exisonic.
3) dala is a side project of musician, artist and songwriter Guy Dale. Others include his work with the band Funés and Mute Swimmer. The music he produces under this moniker is largely instrumental consisting of manipulated sound drawn from concrete, electric and acoustic sources. Many of the projects involve certain conceptual contraints such as a track composed entirely from the sound of a cheap radio or the amplified static of a recording of 'nothing'. In 2005 Dala composed music for a short film entitled 'Paisaje Cero' by the spanish artist Anna Martinez Garcia.

Northern Lights
Dala Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
La la la, la la la la
She’s got a French last name and a homemade hula hoop
Laughing outside on a summer night with nothing else to do
Everyone is waiting for their fame
But the kid inside is satisfied, just to stay up late
La la la, la la la la
The party’s rolling like a movie set,
And I’m feeling sentimental for what hasn’t happened yet
Everyone is older than their dream
And I could be on the payroll but I’m where I want to be
And it’s one more night without you
Just one more night without you
I can’t see the Northern lights, just by wishing it were true
One more night without…
La la la, la la la la
La la la, la la la la
I’m writing my confessions in the sand
Out here, somewhere in between a mountain and a man
Everyone lines up for something new
But all the stars are falling in the darkness of their rooms
And it’s one more night without you
Just one more night without you
I can’t see the Northern lights, just by wishing it were true
One more night …
I saw the world through Northern eyes
I stood before the fire light
And I know there’s so much more that I
Could be
I always fall in love from far away
‘Cause everyone is someone, when they’re lit up on a stage
And it’s one more night without you
Just one more night without you
I can’t see the Northern lights, just by wishing it were true
One more night without you
La la la, la la la la
I saw the world through Northern eyes
The song “Northern Lights” by Dala is a wistful and dreamy ballad, which speaks of yearning for love and adventure. The singer recounts her experiences of watching the world around her through the lens of her “Northern eyes.” She describes a scene of idyllic summer nights with a friend who has a French last name and an improvised hula hoop. Every one of their peers is chasing their aspirations, but the two girls are content staying up late and enjoying each other’s company. The singer reminisces about parties where she feels reflective and emotional. Although she could be pursuing a career, she is content where she is, hopeful for the future but uncertain about what it holds.
In the second verse, the singer can be seen writing confessions in the sand, musing on the transient nature of life. Although everyone lines up to grab the newest thing, she is more concerned about the beauty is around her, such as the Northern lights. She is still waiting for a love that is not yet fulfilled, always falling in love from afar, with people she admires on stage. She is hopeful and dreamy, even in her unrequited love. The song presents a nostalgic and whimsical vision of the world, yet with the reality that every visionary person still desires love and affection.
