Nothing But Our Love
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is nothing that you want
What I lack, what I lack
Nothing but your love
(It's easy)
Don't try, don't try so hard
My love is easy
These drugs won't leave me
All we have, all we have
Is nothing but our love
(It's easy)
It's easy, your love is easy
And I get more than I deserve
I get more than I deserve
Baby everyone some worth
And we get more than we deserve
Don't try, don't try so hard
My love is easy
Don't be the afterglow
These drugs don't leave me
Don't try so hard
My love is easy
Don't be the afterglow
Your drugs don't leave me
And I get more than I deserve.
The lyrics in Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.'s song "Nothing But Our Love" appears to be a tribute to the simplicity of unconditional love. The first two lines suggest that the singer has nothing to offer that the object of their affection might want, and therefore, all that is left is their love. The simplicity of the love seems to be emphasized throughout the song with the phrase "It's easy" continuously repeated. The singer urges their beloved not to try so hard and not to let drugs come between them. The repetition of these lines presents the perfect embodiment of an easy love that is unencumbered by societal constructs and norms.
The most intriguing aspect of the song is perhaps the idea of worth. The line "Baby everyone some worth, And we get more than we deserve" suggests that the singer and their beloved are aware that they are getting more than they deserve or are entitled to. This statement could be interpreted in various ways. It could mean that they are getting more love than they deserve, or it could also mean that they are getting more worth or value than they deserve. It appears that the singer understands the value of a simple love that is not defined by material possessions or societal expectations.
