Titanic

Sior Capitano mi stia a sentire
E gira gira gira gira l'elica
E trasmetteva saluti e speranze
Per questa crociera straordinaria
Riceveva messaggi d'auguri
The song, "Titanic," by Italian singer-songwriter, Dalla De Gregori, recounts the experiences of passengers aboard the infamous ship. The opening lines of the song describe the different classes of passengers on the Titanic, with first class being the most expensive, second class being less expensive, and third class being the least expensive. The third class (represented in the song) is described as being a place of "pain and fear" and smelling of "sweat from the hatch" and the scent of "dead sea." Despite this, the singer of the song, who belongs to the third class, tells the captain that he has enough money to travel in first class and wants to experience traveling on the beautiful sea.
The song then goes on to describe different experiences of people from various classes on board the Titanic. The singer's daughter, who bought a hat in Paris, dreams of being invited to the first-class table for dinner and dancing to American rhythms with the orchestra. The people from third class, called "cafoni" (rude/rustic people), are enjoying the trip, describing their cabin as spacious and comfortable, treating them as gentlemen, and offering them opportunities to enjoy the beautiful weather. The song ends with a description of the ship's radio operator, who communicates with passengers from different parts of the ship, sending them messages of love and hope, making this voyage extraordinary.
