Somebody Somewhere
Dallas Smith Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sometimes you don't know what you got until it's gone
Sometimes it's hard to believe I could have been that wrong
And I finally figured it out as she was driving away
And now I'm living with the fact that out there today

[Chorus]
Somebody somewhere is saying those things I know I should have said
Somebody somewhere ain't gonna let her go quite as easy as I did
I hope that she's happy as much as it hurts me to see it all go down from here
Ya there's somebody out there holding my somebody somewhere

Took some time but I get along fine all by myself
And looking around but I still haven't found anybody else
Sometimes I let myself wonder what she's doing right now
Even though I know there's a pretty good chance
That she's already found

[Chorus]

Maybe on a beach in Mexico
Maybe parked in the shade on an old dirt road
Ya I don't know
I don't wanna know

I hope that she's happy
As much as it hurts me to see it all go down from here
Ya there's somebody out there
Oh there's somebody out there
Ya there's somebody out there holding my somebody somewhere

Somebody somewhere

Overall Meaning

in Dallas Smith's song refers to a woman whom the singer took for granted and lost. The lyrics describe the singer's regret and realization that he should have treated her better. He acknowledges that he was wrong and that he should have said the things he's now imagining somebody else saying to her. The chorus amplifies this regret, with the singer hoping that the other person who cares for her now will treat her better than he did. The verse also suggests that the singer has tried to move on and finds it hard to imagine her being with someone else. He even says he doesn't want to know what she's doing or who she's with.

The song's message is universal, reflecting the regret and pain that accompany a breakup or dissolution of a relationship. The singer's struggle to come to terms with his loss and to cope with the pain of seeing someone he still cares for being happy with someone else is a relatable one. The lyrics evoke the hope for closure and the pain of moving on, which people often experience when struggling with a lost love.

Great work Dallas! A lot of people find it tough to go from Rock to Country but you've done it seamlessly! Your talent never ceases to amaze me!

You can always tell a great singer when it doesn't matter what gener of music it is, they sound absolutely amazing!!!!! Great job. Can't wait to see what he does next. There is only two kinds of music, GOOD and BAD. And this is very good.

amazing! best of both worlds. but it still boggles me why he's still so underrated. This guy really deserves his long due recognition.

Unfortunately, I agree. This man's voice is amazing, but it is much more distinguished and unique in the Default songs. Live a Lie, Deny, Way We Were, Taking My Life Away, and a load of other songs - his voice is incredible. It's almost difficult to tell this is him singing, not just another country guy.

Dallas is amazing! I actually don't listen to country music but this song is incredible! I love it :) but i feel like I'm the only person who knows him here in germany... i can't understand why he's so underrated :(

Dallas sounds awesome in Default and on his own. Either way he has talent that is finally being recognized. :D

I saw Staind and Default in concert about 5 or 6 years ago in Toronto. Now both Aaron Lewis and Dallas Smith have gone country! They should do a country tour together now!
