Mirrors
Dam-Funk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In eighteenth century
There was a man who!
Invented the sunglasses
But he didn't know
How great was the achievement
It was!
The beginning of new live
Your thoughts are not to guess
The only one mirror of your mind
Of your mind, uu
Covered by the colored glass
But
The biggest mystery
That it reflects disco light
And what happens at the night

That's funk that's why
That's funk that's why ihuu i huu
That's funk that's why ihuu I huu

Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror

In the evening there was a party
In the boogie town
Boogie town
Inside dance floor and people crowd
In the middle at the top
There was something strange
Something strange
Disco ball with the glasses
Looks like monkey head

It turned out that
It was disco head
Monkey by the glasses
Give the beams beams back
Dazzle people by the light
By the light
Change the sadness into
Happiness style
That's funk that's why
That's funk that's why ihuu ihuu
That's funk that's why ihuu ihuu

Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror
Mirror
You got a mirror

There is a party in the boogie town
There is a party in the boogie town
Dance with me in the boogie town
Dance with me in the boogie
Dance with me in the boogie town
Lets dance, lets dance
Lets dance
In the boogie town

You gotta, You got ta
You got a mirror
You gotta, You got ta

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Mirrors" by Dam-Funk explore the concept of reflection and self-perception, in the context of a funky, disco-driven party scene. The song begins by referencing the invention of sunglasses in the eighteenth century, highlighting the significance of this achievement in shaping a new way of seeing the world. However, it also suggests that the inventor did not fully grasp the extent of this achievement and its impact on human experience.

The lyrics then delve into the idea that our thoughts should not be limited to the surface level, superficial reflections of ourselves. The mention of a "mirror of your mind" covered by colored glass implies that our true selves are often obscured by superficialities and external influences. The biggest mystery lies in the fact that this mirror is capable of reflecting disco light and capturing the essence of what happens during the night, alluding to the deeper, soulful connection that can be found in the world of funk.

As the song progresses, it describes a party in a town called Boogie Town, where people are dancing and enjoying themselves. In the middle of the dance floor, there is something strange—a disco ball that resembles a monkey head. This disco head, equipped with glasses, emits beams of light that dazzle and transform sadness into happiness. It symbolizes the transformative power of funk music and its ability to uplift and bring joy to people's lives.

Overall, "Mirrors" is a celebration of self-expression, individuality, and finding happiness through the power of funk music and dance.

Saw him this saturday at splash festival, Germany. He rocked a small crowd of about two hundred people, jumped in the stage with his keyboard and took the time to make some small talk with everyone afterwards AND the show itself was awesome. Great musician
