Lover

If you hold our secrets close you can always play with me
Silence, You've heard it before
In the silence you'll feel my love
Travellin through your open door
Baby let's run away, Take it day by day..
Lover, Lonely from the lies
See a river filled with pain, runnin' thru your bedroom eyes
Violence, such a waste of time
Come on baby run into my arms
Deliver you from the violent times
Baby let's run away, We'll take it day by day
Lover...
To me a woman's soul is like a mirror,
Where you look into it a man has no fear
I would never break what keeps us whole
A woman like you I could never let go...
The song "Lover" by Dan Reed Network is a plea for honesty and loyalty within a romantic relationship. The singer addresses their lover directly and asks them not to betray their trust by sharing their secrets. The lyrics imply that the singer has experienced dishonesty and pain in the past ("lonely from the lies," "a river filled with pain"), and they see their lover as an opportunity for healing and escape ("baby let's run away"). The section about violence may refer to both physical violence and emotional conflict within the relationship, and the singer promises to be a source of comfort and safety for their partner.
Overall, the song is about the importance of trust and open communication in a relationship. The repeated refrain of "lover" reinforces the intimacy and closeness the singer desires, while the final lines suggest that the singer greatly values their partner and would never do anything to harm them.
