Never thought I'd feel alone
With people everywhere
No familar faces there
And now I can't find the strength I knew so well
Distant voice of freedom's bell
It echos in the air
The prisoner's constant prayer
And it breaks my heart to see the pain
I'm willing to do anything
to hold you for a while
just to see you smile
and it breaks my heart in two
knowing what we have to do to make it home again
and will we be together in the end
When tears fall from your eyes
And courage can't disguise
Your deepest weekness
A child lies in pieces
Just realize we'll always stand as one
Sure as the rising sun
Greets every new day
And warms away your heartache
And it breaks my heart to see the pain
I'm willing to do anything
To hold you for a while
Just to see you smile
And it breaks my heart in two
Knowing what we have to do to make it home again
And will we be together in the end
And it breaks my heart to see the pain
I'm willing to do anything
To hold you for a while
Just to see you smile
And it breaks my heart in two
Knowing what we have to do to make it home again
Will we be together in the end
We'll always be together, my friend
In the song "Far From Home" by Dana Delany, the theme revolves around the feeling of loneliness, being distant from familiarity and the struggle of being away from home. In the first verse, she touches on how the feeling of loneliness creeps in even when surrounded by people due to the absence of familiar faces, and the lack of strength she once knew. The symbol of a distant voice of freedom bell in the air, echoing the prisoner's constant prayer, is mentioned, which means she finds hope in a freedom that is far removed from her current reality. The chorus emphasizes the emotional turmoil of being away from loved ones, how it breaks her heart to see pain, and how she is willing to do anything to hold her loved ones for a while, just to see them smile - revealing how powerful love can be despite geographical barriers.
In the second verse, she reveals how tears fall from eyes and courage can't disguise one's deepest weaknesses, conveying the vulnerability and how being away from home can push people into their fragile states. A child is mentioned to show that anyone, irrespective of age or gender, can feel the impact of being away from home. The hopeful message is provided in the form of reassuring that no matter how far away from each other they may be, they will always stand as one and warm away their heartaches.
Overall, the song depicts the hardships of being far away from home, the fragility it can cause, but the resilience that hope and love can provide.
