In 2006 Dananananaykroyd released two limited edition 7" singles, "Totally Bone" and "Some Dresses" on Moshi Moshi and Jealous Records respectively. A Japan-only CD EP, collecting both singles, was later released on Kanazawa's Klee/Rallye records. Singer Giles Bailey left the group and was replaced by drummer Calum Gunn while John Baillie Jnr joined the band on drums and additional lead vocals.
Dananananaykroyd released their first EP, Sissy Hits, on London-based Holy Roar Records in June 2008. Shortly after, they introduced ex-Russia drummer Paul Carlin as their new (other) drummer after James Hamilton of Errors left the band. Dananananaykroyd signed to Best Before Records shortly thereafter, and recorded their debut full-length album Hey Everyone! in the US with producer Machine.
The band have toured the UK extensively with bands such as Foals and in 2009 completed a European tour with the Kaiser Chiefs. They played at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in August 2009.
In June 2009, the band announced that bass player Laura Hyde had left, and would be replaced on tour by Ryan McGinness.
In August 2009 during a concert in Sydney, Australia, near the beginning of the band's set, singer John Baillie Junior jumped off stage and broke his arm causing the band to cancel the remainder of their Australian tour, as well as appearances at Pukkelpop and Belladrum festivals. Baillie snapped both bones that run from the wrist to the elbow, shearing a large chunk of bone from his elbow. Emergency surgery was needed in Sydney to fix the injury, leaving four metal screws in his arm permanently. His return show (with Calum and John sharing vocals duties) was Reading Festival only 3 weeks later which the band opened, playing to 10,000+ people on the Radio 1/NME stage. Baillie had said that one day he wanted to return to the venue in Sydney and continue the show from the floor where he fell and from the point in the set where it was cut short. The band were able to do this in July 2011, in which they performed at the Annandale Hotel exactly two years to the date after the accident.
The band announced that they were disbanding on 29th September 2011. Some of the former members of Dananananaykroyd went on to form Alarm Bells. Gunn joined Her Parents, while Baillie took on production duties in pop project Bossy Love.
Some Dresses

There is something brilliant approaching, onto our patch encroaching
We'll hand it over, with a YEAH!
We'll watch the fabric fold, while our beauty you behoooooooooooooooold!
Yeah! Can you smell it in the air?
In three minutes it will billow about me
Cut around to fit so neatly
Behold the cloth that we folded
With the tape about our shoulders
Every rule has been taken in and yeah
Cut and stitched to make it fit about the hips
See how the loop is fixed, under cross-stitch
We wanna look as good as you
As we race up to the loom
Pop pop! On the cuffs
Huh huh! On the hem
Yeah! Can you feel it in the air?
Tonight we begin revolving
at a speed sending skirts ascending
You cannot contend with the RPM
Regard the seamstress' insight
As we twirl into the spotlight
I am in a state to ovulate and yeah
Find myself contorted oddly
So I can learn to love my body
Position of the shoulder blades deny access to the vertebrae
Dispel concerns about the fit
With five pairs of hands to assist the zip
Pop pop! On the cuffs
Huh huh! On the hem
The wheel begins a motion that spins trails on the thread
And we can make a path along until it takes us to the AH AH AH AH
Edge of an incision that the scissors will have run
And the voice becomes the needle and the thimble and the thumb!
We can choose the pattern, can identify the page and
We can choose the pattern that the music will arrange
And while the spinning of the wheel begins to generate a wind
The voice becomes the stitches and the needle and the pins
The song "Some Dresses" by Dananananaykroyd is an upbeat and energetic anthem about the joy of creating and wearing clothing. The lyrics begin with a sense of anticipation, as the singer senses that something exciting and brilliant is about to happen. They have a sense of pride and ownership over their creative process, and are excited to share the result with the world. In the second verse, they describe the process of creating the garment, with specific attention paid to the details - every rule has been taken in, and the loop is fixed under cross-stitch. The singer is proud of their creation and wants to look great in it. The final verse describes the joy of wearing the garment and performing in front of an audience. The singer feels powerful and confident in their own body, and the spinning of the wheel is a metaphor for the joy and creativity of life itself.
Overall, the song is a joyful celebration of creativity, self-expression, and the power of clothing to make us feel good about ourselves.
