She later expanded on this viral hit with "Cruel Summer," a single pulled from her 2017 eponymous album. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Mason broke into the music industry as a songwriter, penning songs for Nick Jonas, among others. Mason was a childhood friend of the Jonas Brothers, and Joe gave her a break by having her tour with his band DNCE. Mason began her solo career with the single "Shade of You," which earned some attention in 2014, the same year that she served as an opening act on Demi Lovato's spring tour. Later in 2014, she also released a cover of Paul McCartney's seasonal standard "Wonderful Christmastime." The EP Technicolour arrived in 2016, and the following year Mason released her self-titled full-length debut.
