Dannii first broke out of her sister's shadow in 1997 with the album Girl. Whilst Kylie Minogue was experimenting with dark lyrics, indie collaborations and moody images (Impossible Princess), Dannii went out and out for the dancefloor with the huge hit All I Wanna Do. Unfortunately, the album that it was from only reached No. 57. However, Dannii herself has said, "This was a big turning point for me. It has led me on to the album Neon Nights and my collaborations with many club DJs and remixers".
2001 was a success for Dannii, when her vocals were part of Riva's Who Do You Love Now?, which laid the foundations for her fourth album Neon Nights released in March 2003.
Moving to London Records, Dannii made more credible dance tracks including I Begin To Wonder and Put The Needle On It. In 2003, Dannii released her fourth album, Neon Nights. It was a surprise chart success, reaching no.8 in the UK charts and eventually achieving gold status, selling over 100,000 copies. The album also made gold certification in Australia. Dannii also teamed up with chill-out Ibiza stars Afterlife for a collaboration on their Speck of Gold album. Dannii's star was beginning to shine in its own right.
In 2004, after a top 10 album and four top 10 singles, Dannii moved to All Around The World Records. Her first single for AATW was You Won't Forget About Me, which saw Dannii's vocals layered on top of the instrumental hit Flower Power and landed at no.7 in the UK charts, making it Dannii's fifth consecutive top 10 hit. You Won't Forget About Me was followed up in 2005 by Perfection, on which Dannii teamed up with the Soul Seekerz, which narrowly missed out on the top 10 in the UK, peaking at no.11. In 2006, she returned with So Under Pressure and her Greatest Hits album The Hits & Beyond.
Dannii has been a judge on British television channel ITV's The X Factor since 2007 alongside Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh.
In November 2007, Girl and Neon Nights were re-released with bonus discs, with a new studio album Club Disco and compilation album Unleashed appearing within the following weeks. A stand alone single Touch Me Like That was released in December 2007. It was later included on the re-release of Club Disco released in Australia in the spring 2008.
Later in 2008, the logical and long-overdue duet with her own sister finally was released as Kylie & Dannii recorded a cover of ABBA's The Winner Takes It All appeared on the soundtrack album to the shortlived BBC show Beautiful People.

Made me feel so good inside
I never thought you were doing wrong
In my heart you were the only one
But as time passed us by
You seem to change right before my eyes
Red lipstick found on your clothes
It's time to move on
I have to leave and there's no better way
It's time to move on
Don't waste your sweet talk
It's time to move on
I have to leave and there's no better way
It's time to move on
There is no reason I should stay with you
There is no reason, there is no reason
There was a time when it was one-on-one
And our love life was so much fun
Just a touch from your loving hand
Would turn me on and my heart would start to dance
(Just a little bit) Of loving that we shared
(Just a little bit) Of your heart and romance
(Just a little bit) Will never be enough
'Cause I need a man
That can give me everlasting love
It's time to move on
I have to leave and there's no better way
It's time to move on
Don't waste your sweet talk
Don't waste your sweet talk
It's time to move on
I have to leave and there's no better way
It's time to move on
There is no reason I should stay with you
I know in time
A true man if I could find them
I had a love
It's gonna last for the rest of my life
Time, time, time, time
There is no reason, 'cause I need a
There is no reason, 'cause I need a man
There is no reason, 'cause I need a
'Cause I need a man
That can give me everlasting love
It's time to move on
I have to leave and there's no better way
It's time to move on
Don't waste your sweet talk
Don't waste your sweet talk
It's time to move on
I have to leave and there's no better way
It's time to move on
There is no reason I should stay with you
(Just a little bit) Of your love
(Just a little bit) Of your heart
(Just a little bit) Of romance
Don't waste your sweet talk

The lyrics of Dannii Minogue's song It's Time to Move On tell the story of a woman who is confronting the sad reality that her relationship has ended. The song reminisces about the good times and nostalgia of the past relationship with the man she loved. The first verse highlights the love and admiration she had for her ex-partner, and how she was certain he was the only one for her. However, the second verse reveals a significant change, as he started coming home with red lipstick on his clothes. In this vivid imagery, Dannii Minogue is expressing her loss of trust in her partner, which has created a rift between them.
The chorus of the song, "It's time to move on... there is no reason I should stay with you," is the pivotal crux of the song, as the singer comes to terms with the fact that she must part ways with her partner because continuing to stay will only cause more damage. Despite the memories and love shared between them, this woman is resolute in her decision to leave and embrace the future.
Overall, the song shares a powerful message of not holding onto something that is no longer good for you, and finding the strength to move on, even if it is difficult emotionally.
