Tokyo
Danny Saucedo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You grab me down, you lift me with your magic
New and old
I know your way but I don't understand it
Steel and stone
A thousand years of history and future
Gold and cone
A lazy beam's creating this illusion
I can leave any day
But you're always gonna stay on my mind
Tokyo
- You've got the rhythm in you
High and low
- She's gonna do it to you
Tokyo
- You've got the rhythm in you
High and low
- She's gonna do it to you
Sleepless nights
My eyes are open but I must be dreaming
You and I
We play it cool but underneath we're steaming
You can run you can hide
But this roller-coaster ride never stops
Tokyo
- You've got the rhythm in you
High and low
- She's gonna do it to you
Tokyo
- You've got the rhythm in you
High and low
- She's gonna do it to you
She's gonna do it to you
She's gonna do it to you...
Ohh...
I can leave any day
But you're always gonna stay on my mind
And you can run you can hide
But this roller-coaster ride never stops
Tokyo
- You've got the rhythm in you
High and low
- She's gonna do it to you
Tokyo
- You've got the rhythm in you
High and low
- She's gonna do it to you
Tokyo
- You've got the rhythm in you
High and low
- She's gonna do it to you
Tokyo
- You've got the rhythm in you
High and low
- She's gonna do it to you
Danny Saucedo's song "Tokyo" is a lyrically complex and thought-provoking pop song. The lyrics of the opening verse create a contrast between warm and cold, old and new, steel and stone, and gold and cone. These contrasting images represent the city of Tokyo, a place that is simultaneously steeped in history and tradition and embracing modernity and innovation. The singer of the song expresses her confusion about Tokyo, recognizing its power and beauty but feeling like she doesn't fully understand it. Throughout the song, she expresses her love for the city despite its complexity and the conflicting emotions it evokes.
The chorus of "Tokyo" is catchy and energetic, with the repeated phrase "You've got the rhythm in you, high and low, she's gonna do it to you." The repeated use of the word "you" is significant because it represents the singer's personal experience with Tokyo. The city is not just a place but a force that affects her deeply, inspiring her to dance and feel alive.
The second verse of the song explores the theme of contradictions further. The singer describes Tokyo as a place that is both exhilarating and exhausting, a place where dreams and reality collide. She emphasizes that the city never sleeps, creating a sense of constant movement and energy.
Overall, "Tokyo" is a song that celebrates the beauty and complexity of one of the world's most fascinating cities. Through its use of contrasting images and energetic language, it captures the essence of Tokyo as a place that is both thrilling and mysterious.
