I
Darin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I really thought I got it this time.
I never knew a thing like this could end.
I guess I'm really back to nothing,
To what they use to call square one.
(I'm starting all over)

Waking up alone again now.
Staring at the phone and wondering how.
Reading all the letters once more,
Try to figure out how this could be
(all over, so over)

But then there is that someone,
Wherever I'm turning she's there

[Chorus]
Like no one, you take the pain away
Like the sun, lighting up my everyday
You are the sun, the only one
Like no one, you stay around for me
Like the sun, lighting up the way for me
You are the sun, the only one, you are the sun

I know I really shouldn't do this.
I really shouldn't make the same mistake
(all over, we've been there)
I don't even wanna do it,
It's just a way of keeping thoughts away.
(An easy solution)

It will always be that someone,
Where ever I'm turning she's there

[Chorus]

You are the sun. The only one I turn to in need.
You are the sun. The only one I truly believe.

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

In Darin's "Like No One" song, the singer is expressing his dissatisfaction with his current state of emotions. He thought he had everything under control, but he realizes that nothing is constant, and everything can come to an end. He is heartbroken, and every day seems like a struggle as he wakes up alone and tries to make sense of what went wrong. He tries to go back to the beginning or square one but realizes that it's not possible. The only thing that keeps him grounded, giving him hope and taking away his pain is a special someone who is always there. This person is like no one else he has ever known, someone who is constant and lights up his world like the sun.

The song is a love song that speaks to the themes of heartbreak, loneliness and finding solace in a loved one. Interestingly, Darin has often explained in interviews that the song is inspired by his fans who have been with him for a long time and who have been the motivation behind the music he writes. He has mentioned several times that his fans are like no one else, and how they show constant support and love for his music.

I'll be there when all your dreams are broken
To answer  your unspoken prayer, oh....
When the little things you're doin', ooh, don't  turn out right
Don't you worry darlin' I'll be thereThere whenever you need to know that there is someone who  cares, oh yeah!
So if your new love isn't your true love
Don't you worry  darlin', I'll be thereThere whenever you need to know that there is someone who  cares, oh yeah!
So if your new love isn't your true love
Don't you worry  darlin', I'll be there
Don't you worry darlin', I'll be there
Don't you  worry darlin', I'll be there .......

Never to be forgotten Bobby Darin

@sauquoit13456

On this day in 1965 {January 12th} Gerry and the Pacemakers performed "I'll Be There" on the NBC-TV program 'Hullabaloo'... One month earlier on December 12th, 1964 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #14 and spent 10 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #15 on the United Kingdom's Singles chart... The song was written and originally recorded by Bobby Darin in 1960; his version peaked at #79... R.I.P. Mr. Darin {1936 - 1973}...

Love this song! Love Bobby Darin!

@lzontek

Have to admit the first time I heard this song, it was Gerry Marsden's version and I loved it.  I grew up in a Bobby Darin loving household, and when I found out it was Bobby's song I instantly listened to' it.  I find I love both versions, I actually saw Gerry sing it live in Brighton, England in the 70s but most unfortunately was too young to ever see Bobby Darin perform it live.  He died way too young.

@lasnubes93

His music has no time limits even my younger son listens to all his music. He was taken way too soon. A young man with so much talent, yet someone who wanted to make a difference in the world. You're missed Bobby even now. But so happy you were here even though in our hearts it was no long enough

@valton47

I still miss Bobby. He was taken from us much too early. A sublime voice who captures every note and word with perfection. RIP Bobby. Here’s to your memory.

Bobby Darin's self penned and recorded song "I'll Be There" is the best version.  His unique versatile multi-talents took Bobby along many varied paths in his life and  giving his fans the opportunity to see just what this young man was really all about.  If Bobby had made it through his recovery this world would have been a bigger oyster for him than it already was at the time.   Bobby's songs are timeless and I always experience great joy listening to them, even my young nine year old grand child loves listening to him, singing along.  Says something for music of the 50's, 60's and early 70's doesn't it. Fantastic era in time.   Best ever in the business.  Love Bobby's entire enormous body of work, man is a genius.  RIP Bobby !!!!!!

I totally agree with every word you said.  His talent was unmistakeable and he is so sadly missed.  Such a wonderfully total entertainer.
