And I am a fool for beauty
Fooled by a feeling that because I have found you
I could have bound you too
You are too beautiful for one man alone
For one lucky fool to be with
When there are other men
Love does not stand sharing
Not if one cares
Have you been comparing
My every kiss with theirs
If, on the other hand, I'm faithful to you
It's not through a sense of duty
You are too beautiful
And I am a fool for beauty
Love does not stand sharing
Not if one cares
Have you been comparing
My every kiss with theirs
If, on the other hand, I'm faithful to you
It's not through a sense of duty
You are too beautiful
And I am a fool for beauty
In Daryl Sherman's song "Where Are You?", the lyrics delve into the themes of beauty, desire, and insecurity in a romantic relationship. The singer begins by expressing their admiration for their partner's unparalleled beauty, acknowledging that it seems almost too good to be true. However, they also admit to being a "fool for beauty," implying that their infatuation with their partner's appearance has clouded their judgment.
The singer then reflects on their fear of losing their partner to other men who may find them just as beautiful. They acknowledge that their partner's beauty is so captivating that it's difficult to believe they would remain faithful to one person. The idea of sharing their partner's affections becomes a concern for the singer, as they believe love does not tolerate sharing, especially when one truly cares for their partner.
There is a hint of insecurity in the singer's words, as they question whether their partner compares their kisses with those of other men. This vulnerability suggests a fear of not living up to the standards set by other potential suitors. They desire to be the only one that their partner sees and loves, but the fear of competition lingers.
However, the singer counters their insecurities and expresses that their fidelity is not stemming from a sense of duty or obligation. Rather, it is because they genuinely believe that their partner is too beautiful to risk losing. Despite their vulnerabilities and fears, the singer proclaims their commitment to their partner and acknowledges their own foolishness for being so taken by beauty.
Overall, these lyrics explore the complex emotions that arise from the perception of beauty in a romantic relationship. They touch on insecurities, fear of competition, and the overwhelming desire to be the sole recipient of their partner's affection.
