The major label debut, GALIT KAMI SA BABOY (We Hate Pigs), came in 1995 and made it possible for the band to tour major cities across the islands, that is, until 1998, when the ensuing oversaturation of the fickle mass market led to the decline in interest towards the "new" music. After developing a relatively strong nationwide fan base, Datu's Tribe disappeared from the scene barely three years after their commercial debut.
The group re-formed in 2005 after a seven-year hiatus, and released the 7-song home studio-recorded EP entitled, FAT BURNER. Two years later, the long-overdue full length follow-up, WHOA! PILIPINAS! was finally let loose as a fully independent project in 2007.
The music has been described as eclectic (the result of diverse musical influences among the band members) but powerful and aggressive. Perhaps the single most important unifying characteristic lies in the lyrical content as themes focus almost exclusively on social issues and concerns set against the backdrop of the turbulent political and economic climate of a 3rd World Philippines. But in spite of the Datu's Tribe package's seeming lack of commercial viability, the band continues to enjoy critical acclaim and mass support because their delivery system makes use of sarcasm and wry humor - elements that appeal very much to the sensibilities of the Filipino people.

Masigla maligaya makulay
Ipakita and diwa ng pagmamahalan
In Datu's Tribe's song "Feelings", the singer expresses a desire to sing a happy song that celebrates love and affection, but finds their emotions trapped by the harsh realities of life in the Philippines. Despite the popular association of Filipinos with romantic sentiments, the singer feels unable to ignore the violence, poverty and corruption that pervade their society. The lyrics paint a jarring image of life on the streets, with references to shooting incidents, street children, sleeping police officers and destitute beggars. The singer acknowledges that they envy famous Filipino singers like Ariel Rivera, Regine Velasquez and April Boy Regino who are able to express pure emotions through their music, but ultimately cannot bring themselves to do the same.
Through this song, Datu's Tribe highlights the disconnect between the idealized emotions that are often associated with Filipino culture - particularly the concept of "pagmamahalan" or love and affection - and the harsh realities of life in a society that struggles with poverty, violence, and corruption. The lyrics are a poignant reflection on the contradiction between the joy and lightness of popular music and the heavy burdens of real life. By expressing their feelings through unconventional and unvarnished language, the singer reinforces the idea that music must be a reflection of the society in which it is made.
