Life After You
Daughtry(도트리) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ten miles from town
And I just broke down
Spitting out smoke on the side of the road
I'm out here alone
Just trying to get home
To tell you I was wrong, but you already know
Believe me, I won't stop at nothing to see you
So I've started running

All that I'm after is a life full of laughter
As long as I'm laughing with you
And I think that all that still matters is love ever after
After the life we've been through
'Cause I know there's no life after you

Last time we talked
The night that I walked
Burns like an iron in the back
Of my mind
I must have been high
To say you and I weren't meant to be
And just wasting my time
Oh why did I ever doubt you
You know I would die here without you

All that I'm after is a life full of laughter
As long as I'm laughing with you
And I think that all that still matters is love ever after
After the life we've been through
'Cause I know there's no life after you

You and I, right or wrong
There's no other one
After this time spent alone
It's hard to believe
That a man with sight could be so blind
Thinking about the better times
Must've been out of my mind
So I'm running back to tell you

All that I'm after is a life full of laughter
Without you God knows what I'd do
All that I'm after is a life full of laughter
As long as I'm laughing with you

And I think that all that still matters is love ever after
After the life we've been through
I know there's no life after you
No there's no life after you
No there's no life after you
No there's no life after you
No there's no life after you

No there's no life after you
No there's no life after you ya

Overall Meaning

In "Life After You," Daughtry sings about a man who has realized his mistake in pushing away the person he loves and is now trying to make things right. The first verse sets the scene of the man experiencing car trouble and being stranded on the side of the road, contemplating his actions and how he needs to get back to his lover to apologize. The chorus expresses the man's desire to have a life filled with joy and laughter, but recognizes that the most important thing is experiencing those moments with his beloved. He acknowledges that they have been through difficult times, but insists that there is no life worth living without her.

The second verse reveals that the couple had some sort of falling out in the past, and the man regrets ever doubting his partner's love for him. He realizes that he was foolish to think they weren't meant to be together, and that his life would be empty without her. The bridge emphasizes that despite any mistakes or disagreements they may have had, there is no one else for him but her. He acknowledges that he was blind to not see the good times they shared and how much he loves her. The song ends with the chorus repeating the message that nothing else in life matters as long as he is with her, and that there is no life after her.

Just about 2024 now!! Still proud to be hear?? This guys lyrics are unbelievable! Ive been on a lyric kick lately reading everybodys lyrics and Daughtry is a hell of a songwriter! For me, it is so easy writing the words to a song. I have a million songs written. Putting the music to the lyrics is the hard part. That's where Daughtry is incredible. I don't know how he does it. I'm 52 years old and seeing it all and done it all and been through it all and that's a lot of ammunition to write songs. I just have to learn how to put music to the songs.

It's almost 13 years old, yet still one of our generation's most iconic song's.
