World On Fire
Daughtry Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Going down like a dead man walking
One step from a body in a coffin
Just one, one of the fallen
Waking up to a blood moon, howling
Can't drown it out, even with the medicine
Tearing through me like a bullet of adrenaline

Arms heavy, face down on a death bed
Blame the gods while choking on the violence
In the end, silence is deafening

Can you hear the crowd like a thousand sirens?
In the night like thunder striking
The sickness is rising, the angels are crying
That's the sound of a world on fire

Stressed out, head trauma, took a beating
Takes more than a pill to numb the feeling
Bang, bang, no mercy for the healing
Oh, twenty dead without a fight, without a reason
Twenty more in a cop car, bleeding
All tryna win a war without a meaning

Can you hear the crowd like a thousand sirens?
In the night like thunder striking
The sickness is rising, the angels are crying
That's the sound of a world on fire
World on fire
World on fire

Arms heavy, face down on a death bed
Blame the gods while choking on the violence
In the end, silence is deafening

Can you hear the crowd like a thousand sirens?
In the night like thunder striking
The sickness is rising, the angels are crying
That's the sound of a world on fire
Fire

Yeah, can you hear the crowd like a thousand sirens?
In the night like thunder striking
The sickness is rising, the angels are crying
World on fire (world on fire, world on fire, yeah)
World on fire, world on fire, world on fire)

The sickness is rising, the angels are crying
That's the sound of a world on fire

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "World On Fire" by Daughtry convey a sense of despair and chaos in the world. The song opens with vivid imagery of someone on the brink of death, feeling like a dead man walking and one step away from a coffin. The reference to a blood moon and howling further adds to the haunting atmosphere. Despite trying to drown out the pain with medicine, it only intensifies, burning through the person like an adrenaline-fueled bullet. The heaviness of the situation is depicted through the lyrics, "Arms heavy, face down on a death bed."

The second verse continues the theme of violence, with the blame being put on the gods but ultimately leading to a deafening silence. The chorus emphasizes the widespread calamity, likening the sound of the crowd to a thousand sirens and thunder striking in the night. The sickness, possibly referring to the social and political turmoil, is rising, and even the angels are crying over the state of the world. The repetition of "world on fire" underscores the idea that everything is in a state of chaos.

Overall, the song paints a bleak picture of a world filled with violence, despair, and a lack of meaning. It raises awareness of the destructive forces that impact society and the urgency for change.

Totally agree .. the voting was messed up that night for real .. I called in for Chris and it went to Katherine .. they knew it later but it was too late to fix it .. but now it’s a good thing cause he got great exposure and he don’t have to sign a contract for American Idol .. he’s been been free to create
