Haunting Me

I can see you reach out of a dream
And suddenly I feel you lying next to me
But something isn't right cause I know why
Never let emotions grab my mind
But I am fumblin' for the reasons and the alibies
Of why I am in love with just a fantasy
Do you keep haunting me
Hiding in the shadows never seen?
You still keep haunting me
Only when I close my eyes to sleep
But that's not really fair
Cuz' you're not really there
At all
Every day
I see a thousand girls passing by
And some have got your hair and some have got your eyes
But none of them could be the same as you
So perfect in each and every way
And someday if I run into you face to face
Maybe then I'll end this crazy fantasy
Oh why
The lyrics of Dave Grusin's song "Haunting Me" tell the story of the singer's struggle to move on from a past love, which continues to haunt him every night. The song opens with the singer describing how he sees his former lover in his dreams, causing him to feel their presence next to him. However, he knows that this feeling is not real, and the fantasy is haunting him. The lyrics reveal the singer's frustration with himself for allowing his emotions to take over, even though he knows that his love is just a fantasy.
In the second verse, the singer talks about how he sees other women, but none of them compare to his former love. He describes how his former lover was perfect in every way, making it harder for him to move on. The singer expresses his hope that if he were to run into his former lover face to face, he could bring closure to his fantasy and move on.
Overall, the lyrics of "Haunting Me" convey the complexity of human emotions and the difficulty of letting go of a past love. The song explores themes of loss, regret, and longing, making it relatable to anyone who has experienced heartbreak.
