World In Changes
Dave Mason Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Things could be lazy
If they weren't so crazy
I wasn't following you
Running in circles won't find me no purpose
It's right here with you and what I do

Changes of season, are nearly as pleasin'
As watchin' the changes in you
Time for a new day, in search of a new way
But are you sure that it will do

World in changes still going through
I've got a lot to learn about you
World in changes still going through
You've got a lot to learn about me too
You've got a lot to learn about me too

I said well, let's see
What you really mean to me
I'll tell the truth 'cause I can't pretend
Find yourself a real friend
Then you nearly reached the end
Of all of this runnin' 'round we do

World in changes still going through
I've got a lot to learn about you
World in changes still going through
You've got a lot to learn about me too
You've got a lot to learn about me too

World in changes, world in changes

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "World in Changes" by Dave Mason are about the uncertainties and unpredictability of life and relationships. The first stanza suggests that while things could be easy, they are instead crazy, and following someone or running in circles will not provide any purpose. However, the singer realizes that the meaning of life is in being with the person they care about and doing what they love. The second stanza mentions changes in seasons being as pleasing as watching the changes in a person. The singer seems to be in search of a new way, but questions if it's the right thing to do. In the third stanza, the singer reflects on what the person they care about really means to them and acknowledges that finding oneself and having a true friend is important.

The lyrics suggest that change is an inevitable part of life and that it can be both exciting and scary. They also depict the importance of being honest and genuine with oneself and others, and of having a support system of friends. At its core, "World in Changes" is a love song about navigating the ups and downs of life with someone.

Dave was just 22 years old when he started recording "Alone Together" and wrote every song on it except "Look at You, Look at Me," which was co-written with Jim Capaldi. That is simply amazing.

Mason was born in 1946 (May 10). He was in Traffic when he was 22 (1968) and so I doubt if he was recording Alone Together for two years before its release. Info that I have shows 1970 as the recording and release year. I was in HS when it came out and was a huge Traffic fan.

Much under-rated. These are the types of musicians we sorely lack these days. Write, sing, play accompaniment instruments to their songs.

Ham Star

I still have my marbled vinyl record of this album. One of the best albums of the era, every song is perfect. The music of this time evokes in me a wistful, almost gut-wrenching nostalgia. It was a fun time and great era for music.
