I've watched The Closer 3 times and I cannot for the life of me see where he is being derogatory or disrespectful of the trans community. I think the special is one of his best, and obviously if the transgender community is upset, they have not watched it or listened to it in its entirety. A lot of people didn’t have the old school joking/roasting sessions as kids. What he said about his friend wasn’t really bad. And in fact, his feelings are exactly how some people feel when they first learn about the term transgendered.

I am a Muslim man. I worked with a large group of Gay people and Trans. I never treated a person unfairly or disrespected a person for their way of life, and they are people like you and I. However I believe it is ok to disagree. My book (creed/belief/way of life) disagrees with a gay or a trans. Simultaneously, their book disagrees with mine. Heck they must disagree on both accounts. So it goes. My book disagrees with theirs and vice versa. But we shouldn't disrespect the person holding the book for holding whichever book. One should not embrace their book to the point where you become a fanatic or an extremist. After all these are books that have existed before our time. You must be yourself aside of your book. A place that isn't gay, or religious. I expect people to crack jokes on what I believe in. The things I do and do not within applying the book. But we are not our books at the end of the day. After I die people will carry the books. We have to be ourselves and respect one another despite the books. I feel this is a good means of evolving. Disagree and have a chat about it. This too is good.

Dave Chapelle is genuine. He would not disrespect people. You can tell by his honesty and reasoning for the greater good of humanity. He is one that means well. He disagrees. But he is a good person in or outside of his beliefs. Perhaps it's the social inequality of 'still' being African American yet not American in America - as to why Dave addresses trans and their benefits over others. The pendulum always swing to one extreme before it swings the other way. Woke media and the trans community at large think they can use cancel culture to force the whole world into submission. What they don't understand is Dave Chappelle isn't alone. There is an entire world standing behind Dave Chappelle. People from all over the world are more with him than they are with super woke Internet progressives. The harder the cancelling happens now, the more violently the pendulum swings when it does inevitably swing.

Also this chronically outraged state is unsustainable. many years ago Dave Chappelle did a skit called the "Niggar Family" which was filled with what some might called "Harmful and offensive stereotypes". It was also funny as shit. Dave has always pushed these boundaries in pursuit of finding humor in the darkest of places. The difference is every other community that's been part of the jokes or skits over the years had a sense of humor and again, most people in the community do. It's just the vocal minority that have become obsessed with this push and pull.

I’m part of the trans community. I’ve loved Chappelle since the 90’s. Dude is hilarious. I can’t even get worked up about any of this, he’s just too damn funny! I don’t believe he has any malice toward the trans community at all. I think he’s one of the greats of comedy, and he’s still one of my favorite comics of all time.

I love trans people and I love Dave Chappelle, and I watched the whole special and I’m confused why the special is considered offensive- when you hear the whole context, he really wasn’t saying anything against them. I’d like to see a trans person sit and watch that whole segment and explain what I’m missing.

im transgender and i was never bothered by dave Chapelle, he’s actually one of my favorite comedians!! And seeing all these extreme lgbtq advocates exaggerate and try to cancel anyone makes me feel so ashamed to be classified with them. I’m against cancel culture, but since they are out there making a fool of themselves. It reflects badly on the rest like me. I hate being in the community with those people. Chappelle is the best stand up comedian ever, he's the goat. There's one little thing that bugs me. The world takes comedians too seriously, they are comedians, they make things up, even when they beg for our attention and they want to speak honestly, they are comedians. It's really hard to believe you my man, I mean, you write jokes for a living, don't expect my full support for causes that you are truly invested on (even though I might end up supporting and agreeing with you), at the end of the day, you are a comedian who solely job is to make us laugh.

Being a "TERF" isn't "excluding trans women" 😂 it's precisely the opposite: recognising that Trans women have specific needs that are unique from Women and should be approached as its own group so that issues can actually be dealt with, and with the appropriate focus - integration and support as the main goal.

Trans women are Trans women. Their own issues. Their own solutions. Why integrate to a template already there?

Dave Chappelle makes joke's about about Black, White, Asian, Mexican, ect- people in his specials. It's just joke's. He's one of the best comedians ever. Take it as everyone else does & laugh with him & let it go. He Does Not have hate for anyone. But. No-one is going to tell the man what he can & can't say or do & that is very respectable. He gives us what we need, an escape from the stress of today & a chance to laugh. If you can't learn to laugh at yourself, your life is going to be very sad & stressful. I adore Dave exactly because he is not bending down to anything, he is himself through and through no matter what. He is extremely smart and manages to use that along his shows. Also it's not like he hasn't mentioned the LGBTQ+ community before, so why are they just now acting up?

If he hasnt already, he needs to go on tour with the name of it being "its only funny when its someone else" because thats the main takeaway from this. Did anyone notice the people in the audience who didnt like his "trans" jokes, but seemed to like the racial jokes? Weird. . . It looks like "ITS ONLY FUNNY WHEN ITS SOMEONE ELSE" 😂

Dave's jokes when they were talking of black people they were never offensive or other groups why is this outrage? If we are saying this group cannot be talked about because they are trans if this is not hate filled and we are talking in the context of comedy all of us are equal opportunity in this setting

The most important thing that many people that support Left type thinking is context. A comedian is not attacking anyone at any time directly to hurt ones feelings. This is context, what is the situation the words are being said in, are those words designed to attack someone? If the answer is no... (especially in comedy) and you get offended, that's your problem. Not to mention if you get offended at comedy, why are you there, or watching in the first place. No one is responsible for your feelings and mental well-being but yourself. If you can't handle a situation, its your responsibility to remove yourself from that environment, NOT cancel someone or something because you don't like it.

We as people NEED to stop bending to cancel culture. Let the people be mad... if we all stop caring what they think, they have no power.

It's a shame, Dave is a "tells it like it is" comedian. Interspersing moments of sincerity and observation between jokes. It's incredibly effective when it works, but falls flat when the "truths" are out of touch which is what happened here.

What almost everybody fails to understand is, comedians have license to say anything to get a laugh. As Seinfeld said on his "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee" show, "We were making jokes about 09/11 that evening. We just didn't tell anybody." So, if a comedian makes a joke about something and you get offended, it's a YOU problem.

okay i know nobody has asked for my two cents about all this but i am a stand up comedy lover. My top two favorite comedians are John Mulaney and Dave Chapelle. Let me start off with the fact that i am very gay, and i have been in love with trans people before so i have nothing against any community. And this is just getting taken wayyyy too far. Sure a lot of people assume and think Dave Chapelle is a transphobic comedian. This is just simply not true. I have watched every single one of his specials many many times. And yesterday i watched them again trying to find what was so "transphobic". I found absolutely nothing. He has literally had a transgender woman open up for one of his shows and he has a trust fund for her daughter because that woman sadly passed away. She stuck her neck out for Dave, and everyone on twitter attacked her for it. Which quite honestly makes no sense to me. None of the people on twitter knew Dave personally but she did, and she was trying to say that the "transphobia" thoughts about Dave, they weren't true. And Dave has stated that he has NOTHING against the transgender community. Nothing. People only hear part of the joke and it goes in one ear and out the other and boom it's "transphobic". But the fact is, this generation (which I am a part of) is just too sensitive and cancel culture is HUGE. Sure sometimes it's good, like in cases of Shane Dawson. But cancelling John Mulaney and Dave Chapelle is just plain out dumb. If you actually stick around and LISTEN to Dave's jokes, you would know he isn't transphobic, but instead people just want to assume. And now talking about the newest John Mulaney show in Ohio which Dave opened up for, many many people have said Dave had very transphobic things in his set. Which I definitely believe he brought up the trans community but I don't believe he has openly said anything along the lines of him not liking the community, or he thinks less of them, etc. All you're hearing is stuff from people on twitter, which I won't believe any of it because it's basically a lot of " he said/she said" type situations. Until I know word for word of what was actually said, then I will make a decision, because knowing what Dave has said in his specials, yes he'll bring up the trans community and he will bring up the fact that many think he's transphobic, he is open about it and he shuts it down. So many people are trying to cancel this man when it isn't needed. So, until I know what was actually said at his opener for Mulaney, then we will know if he was actually being transphobic, and if he was, then yes, he can go. But if it was just talk about the community like he usually does. Then this will be needed to put to damn bed. So many people don't know the love Dave has in his heart for every community, and that breaks my heart.
