His GRP debut album Freedom at Midnight was his biggest seller and most popular album. Benoit also says that it was his favorite album to produce, because it was when "everything came together," as he stated in an interview on smoothviews.com.
Out of respect for one of his main influencers, Bill Evans, he dedicated his 1992 album Letter to Evan to him.
Many of his songs employed a string section, most notably on his American Landscape and Orchestral Stories albums in 1997 and 2005, respectively. He has said that it is his dream to release a symphonic album.
In 2000, after the death of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz, he released a memorial album entitled Here's to You, Charlie Brown: 50 Great Years! Collaborators included the chorus group Take 6, guitarist Mark Antoine and trumpeter Chris Botti. He also did the music for "Peanuts" in the later specials.
He is a close friend of The Rippingtons' guitarist and lead Russ Freeman, and they often appeared on each other's albums. They also released collaborative efforts The Benoit/Freeman Project and The Benoit / Freeman Project 2.
Then The Morning Comes

Thank every body you're gonna do it again
You are the few the proud
You are the antibody mind soul and Zen
And the world's a stage
And the world's a faze and the end is near
So push rewind just in time
[Chorus]
The way that you walk
It's just the way that you talk like it ain't no thing
And every single day is just a fling
Then the morning comes
Take your knocks shake them off
Duck everybody you're gonna take them again
You are your foe, your friend
You are the paparazzi
You are the tragedian
And the world's a craze
And the world's a faze and the end is near
So push rewind just in time
Thank anybody you're gonna do it again
[Chorus]
And when it comes it moves so slow
Kind of like it's saying "I told you so"
Looking back before she goes
Tomorrow's gonna hurt
And the world's a stage
And the world's a faze and the end is near
So push rewind just in time
Thank anybody
[Chorus]
The lyrics to David Benoit's song "Then The Morning Comes" speaks about the idea of living life to the fullest and never giving up. It encourages the listener to take risks and embrace every moment, even if it is just a fling. The song begins with the lines "Paint the town, take a bow, thank everybody you're gonna do it again," which signify celebrating one's successes and never settling for complacency. The person addressed is referred to as the "antibody mind, soul, and Zen," which highlights the resilience and strength of character required to persevere in life's challenges.
The songs' chorus speaks about the carefree and nonchalant attitude of the person, and every day is seen as just another adventure, just a fling. The verse continues to remind us that life is a challenge and tells us to take our knocks and shake them off, whether it be from our foes or friends. We are then reminded that we are our biggest critics, and our self-doubt can sometimes hinder us from fulfilling our potential.
The final verse encourages the listener to learn from their experiences and to take each challenge as it comes. The haunting melody and slow pace of the last lines of the song highlight the idea that life can move slowly, and sometimes, tomorrow will hurt no matter how hard one tries.
